It is generally believed that coal ashes poseess little or no value for any agricultural purpose. and yet this hardly the case. Even if they in themselves possessed no fertilizing properties, they still have a value as an absorbent for some purposes, They are excellent for earth closets, to which use they can be turned, But tatting into account the instances where vegetable subetsncoe find their way into the coal lire, and the small amount of potash that they may oon- tain, it is best for those farmers who indulgo in the use of coal for heat. ing purposes to save the refuse and utilize it either as a deodorizer or direct fertilizer.
