Obristmae tree is talked of for the Sunday School of the Methodist Church, Edward Garrow has had bad luck Bin00 ho removed from Cranbrook. Hellas had a cow and a span of hors- es killed by the oars. John MoLanohlin, who purchased the Garrow mill, is taking it down, perparatory to removing it to his farm, where ho will use it in the erection of a barn. klloaat-ryn. J. K. Baker and R, Kerr have boon away in the neighborhood of Exeter, for a week, enjoying the sport of shooting. John Solwood has leased our store and will go into business before long. [fir. Wallet will remove to Listowel, we believe. A detachment of the Gospel Band is expected to aid in revival serviees in the Methodist church here in the near future. A vary beautiful parlor stove was placed. in the parsonage last week, which adds very much to the appear- ance of the room, as well as the com- fort of the pastor and his wife. Tho railway company has thongbt our station master worthy of promo- tion, ands has gang' of mon hero this week fixing up the atation•house, so that Mr. Symond will bo able to move np town in a few weeks. Thyro arc but two daily papers comes to this office, the Mail and the Globe. Taking this as 0 criterion which is not always a correct one, we would suppose Henfryn polities pretty evenly divided so far as numbers are concerned. McKay, left for Glasgow, Scot- land, last week on a trip, and will combine business with pleasure. He takes with him a cargo of 700 barrels of apples. He will be away until Now Year's. The Methodist Young People's Literary Society re -organized for the coming season with the following officers:—J. Buchanan, president ; Mies L. Lloyd, vice-president ; Miss B. Reynolds, secretary ; A. Tipling, treasurer. A. telegram has been received 'from the acting Secretary of State to the effect that the petition in favor of Benj. Simmons, the condemned mur- derer, now lying in London jail, has been considered by the Privy Coun- cil, who have decided that the law must take its course. Simmons will therefore be executed on November 37th. He was told of the decision of the Privy Council in his case Thursday afternoon by the jailer. Ho was not so much agitated during the interview as Mr. Kelly was, and remarked that he thanked. God, if it was His will. He was quite ready to die either now or on the 27th. When asked if he would like to see any par- ticular minister the prisoner replied - Well, ho wasn't particular ; he liked to see all thoee gentlemen who had visited him. After waiting a little time, lie asked to see Rev. Mr. Hicks, of St. Paul's ehnroit, who watt sent for, and went into tho condemned man's Dell early in the evening. Thanksgiving day passed off very quietly in Sunshine until the oboir met in the church at half past two for practice. They had been predict- ing for a while when two gentlemen siogore, who aro neither blessed with good tempers, began to have one of their usual quatrots, They kept it up for a short time 1111 one of them having no more to say inside, wont out, but was followed by the other. The former challenged tbo latter to fight but ho, nob being in the habit of fighting, returned into the church much to the delight of the young ladies some of them being very much interested in both parties. Wo hope the young gentlemen will control their tempers and go on as before as it is a good choir and either of them would be greatly missed.—A well wisher of the choir. Alex. Stewart, proprietor of the Bolgravo hotel, met with a terrible accident on Wednesday of last week, which, it is feared, may be attended with fatal results. It appears that Mr. Stowart had purchased a cow, a rather wild animal, and had just placed it in the stable. The animal was almost frantic with excitement, and when Mr. Stowart was attempt- ing to pacify it, it knocked liim down with a loss of its head. It then gor- ed him in the back, and about the legs ana groin in a terrible manner, lacerating the unfortunate man hor- ribly. It also trampled upon his cheat and body. He woe removed to the house and two doctors did all in their power to relieve the poor man's sufferinge. It is feared that lie has received internal injuries which will lay him up for some time. 831yth. Goo. We have an afternoon mail now direct from the city, which makes it much nicer for business hero. Listowel. The Methodist Church will hold their anniversary on the 22nd and 28rd inst. Rev.
