M. Polly, the well known buy-
er of Goderioh, said the new duty
will knock the horse trade higher
than a kite, particularly inthe
cheaper close of horses. We used
to buy tote of these for from $80 to
$125, and en these the duty would,
be from $10 to $25. Now it is $30
per bead up to the value of $150.
On t orsesvalued tit over $150, the
, duty is now increased 10 per cent.,
which you can easily see is a raise
of from $15 up. Yes sir, we are
not buying horses just now, and,I
think the new bill will make a big
difference in future purchases, We
can't ship anything like a common
, horse to the old country—they don't
need our stock thorn anyway.

‘On Thursday morning dead herring

two and a half inches in length, and
had been killed either by the storm or
the contents of the draiu emptying
