Bell is having a stone foundation put under the frame storeroom at the south of his faotory, and intends veneer- ing it with brick, making it three storeys high and similar to the brick building whioh it adjoins. Burglars entered the store of J. J, Homuth ft Son one night recently, gain- ing entrance from the rear. Before reaching the main store they forced three doors, some of the doors having holes bored through them. Once inside they helped themselves to in quantity of goods. It is supposed that they were disturbed in their work by the movements of some of the occupants of the upper fiat of the store, and that they fled. Several pairs of pants were found in the rear of the store. No clue has been found as to the perpetrators of the burglary. Messrs. Homuth do Son's loss will amouut to about 875. Blyth. ibirs. A. Building operations at the new Meth. odist church are progressing rapidly and before very long the new structure will present a handsome appearance. The architect from Listowel was here last week. Several farmers around the village of late have lost a number of sheep that have boon worried by dogs. September is generally the month for those depre- dations to commence around here, but this year the dogs thought they would begin in August. Rev. I. B. and Mrs. Wallwin and Jos. Leech left last week for the Grimsby Camp meeting. On account of Mr. Wall - win being absent, Thos. Hawkshaw, who until recently kept a hotel in this town, has leased the Tbompeon House on King street, London, and the new hotel will be opened under his management on Sept. let. George Whitley, of Seaforth, has sold his celebrated trotting mare, Florence G., to E. C. Coleman, of this town, for 02,400. Florence G. was bred by Mr. Whitley from Old Clear Grit, and is one of the very best horses on the Canadian turf. Mr. Coleman intends her for breeding purposes. She was waited upon by her sister Maggie, who was bandsomly dressed in ecru rose satin brocade. The groom was supported by A Taylur, A striking characteristic was the two maids of honor, May Tanner and LtturaGray, nieces of the bride and bridegroom,who were beautifully arrayed in white willt natural flowers. The pre. louts were many, very valuable nod well selected, among which was a present to the bride from the bridegroom of an up- right Bell piano. The quarter was made iu HI, the half in 1.081, the three quarters in 1.43i and the mile in 2.16k amid great cheering. The mares were raised by Mr. Hamlin and he also raised their dams and sires. Ho had not driven them together before in three years, ex- cept about four weeks ago iu Buffalo. The annual fall races of the Clinton Driving Park Association took place on Tuesday of this week. The day was slightly misty and rainy, but there was a large attendance and the races were a success.
