afternoon of last week Fred. Tanner met
with what might have proved it serious
accident at bis residence on Dinaley
street. He was in the act of mounting
one of his bronchos for the afternoon's
exercise. The animal, not being used to
the eaddle, got unmanageable and carried.

severe injuries to the back. fie was et
once taken to the house and has been
conlineb to his bed.—On Friday after-
noon James Gillespie bad a narrow escape
of losteg his life while working in A.
Sloan's gravel pit. A large quantity of
gravel and dirt slid from the top, cover-
ing him to the waist before he had time
to get out of its way. Unfortunately for
him no one was in the pit at the time to
assist in extricating him from his peril-
ousposition. He wan there in that peel -

sters returned and rescued him. We are
pleased to hear that he received no ser-
ious injury.

Another case of assault between A.
Hese and F. Berdux occurred on Friday
of lag week, the former being the ag-
gressor this time. The case was settled
out of court,
Thos. Galloway, of 'Uxbridge, who is a
cripple, having been afflicted with vim,
disease for a number of years, delivered
a lecture in the Methodist church on
Wednesday evening of last week, sub-
ject "How to make life it sucoeee."
The annual sermon of the Royal Tem-
pters was preaohed on Sunday afternoon
in the 'Methodist ohuroh, at 345 o'clock,
by the Rev. J. W. Bell, 33. D., of Hamil-
ton, and late of the city of Winnipeg,
Mr. Boll is chairman of the Missionary
Board of 11. T. of T.
Mr. Beamish, divinity student from
an Indiana Oollege, conducted the ser-
vices in Christ Ohuroh on Sunday,. Rev,
Mr. Hughes having taken the Bermes at
Wingliam, where he will soon take
charge. Pending the appointment of a
minister to this parish, a temporary ar-
rangement hits, wo understand, been
made with Mr, Bearnish to conduct the
services here.

of the game took a trip to Owen Sound
and played a friendly match with the
club of that town. A. decided victory for
the visitors was the result, the score be-

run in the two remaining innings. The

On Friday a very one sided game was
played itt Shelburne by the "Unions"
and the town nine. The home team
could not hit Grewar and only 1 run was
scored in the five innings played. The
"Unions," notwithstanding their fooling,
scoured 0 runs. The boys were very
hospitably entertained by R. W. Tuck,

N. A. Young was away last week in the

it said to his credit that he had taken
about 820,000 in risks in the past six
weeks.
Reeve Milne and I. C. Heffernan have
their new saw mill int Curlier township
running, and have made a shipment of
lumber. They have arranged with the
G. T. R. for a switch to the mill. They
aro pushers.
G. A. Boyd has dieposed of hie tailor-
ing business to A. Glenn, of Lietowel,
who takes poseeseion at once. Mr. Glenn
oomes well recommended and will no
doubt secure a large share of public
patronage. Mr. Boyd talks of going to
California about September 1st.
On Monday evening of this week a
couple dozen young people from this
Imlay drove over to Zaok. McKee's,
6th con., for a surprise party. Mrs. Mc-
Kee is a daughter of David Milne and
has lost none of her popularity bygoing
into the double harness of married life.
The new brick hotel is now about
ready for ocoupation. It ie a fine look-
ing building and is it credit to both the
proprietor and the village. The con-
tractor, our well known meohanic, R.
Lang, pushed the work along famously
and demonstrated the fact that be is
ully up to the times.
One Sunday evening, reoently, two
youths visited the oherry orchard of
John Grant, in the owner's absence and
not only helped themselves to the fruit
but damaged one of the trees. The irate
proprietor has ascertained who the
parties were end demands satisfaction or
else he will have them before the beak.
He says he does not begrudge a few
cherries but he thinks the least they
might do is to ask permission.
Last Sunday a well known resident of
Ethel hitched up the bay colt and the
light geared buggy and proceeded west-
ward to see hie "cousin." He drove
through the gate and while the driver
was closing the same the peer went on a
tour of inspeotion into a neighboring
field at a 2.10 gait. The horse jumped
the fence and proms eded homeward. The

ment, .when Clubs from Clinton, Exeter, Brussels, Teeswater and
Gorrie are Expected to Compete. There will also be a Lacrosse
Match.
Brussels Brass Band will be in Attendance.
The Beautiful City Park, with its Monster Pavilion, overlooking the
Harbor, will be Open to the Public Free.
Any number of BONY and Sail Boats will be on hand for Hire.
