About 2 o'clock on Wednesday of last
week the employers of Hasa' factory were
startled by a heavy crash. felt all through
the building. The heavy driving fly-
wheel broke into a hundred pieces, tear.
ing the heavy leather two foot belt like a
ribbon and striking the ceiling and tim-
bers of the factory. Fortunately no one
was injured, the force of the flying pieces
was checked by the bolt, or they would
likely have damaged the walls of the fac-
tory. The engine released from ire load
at once jumped into high speed until the
steam was shut off at the boilers. The
wheel was 18 feet in diameter, with a
26 inch fade, trade up to two heavy cast
sections weighing over six tons. it gave
the shaft it ran on a tremendous wrench
splitting the heavy stone to which its
journal was bolted, and in spite of the
engine being firmly bolted to a solid stone
bed, it drove it an inch out of pleas,
breaking the exhaust pipe. The break
will take probably five weeks to repair,
and be a heavy expense to the firm.
