The Clinton New Era says ; It is said that the East Huron Conservative As- sooiation, at their meeting last week, when Mr. Muegroye was nominated, found it hard work to get any one will- ing to be sacrificed, but they thought it would look too bad to allow it to go by default, and Mr. Musgrove was pomad- ed to accept it on being guaranteed lois expenses and two months' salary while conducting the campaign, This is, per. haps, no more than fair, and it will help to break his fall About two o'clock on Tuesday merit- ing of last week a brick farm house with frame additions, owned by John Weir, of Goderioh township, about two miles from Clinton, was totally destroyed by Ere. It appears, however, that a few' so friends of the Government think there g may ba something in the report, simply because it has not been contradicted in the Globe. We have, therefore, been re- quested to state that th-re ie not a parti- ale of foundation for the story. The Government bave never intended, and do not now intend, to' bring on a general eleotion previona to another session of the Legislature. ' The Clinton New Era says : It has esu rumored in political circles for me time that Sir John intended to errymender the Hurons at• the time of the next oeneus. We bannot youth for his intention, bnt we can vouch for the rumor, and if the "re.adjustment" takes anything like the form that is spoken of, it will be a most shameful attempt to prevent a free expreeeion of the will of the people. The proposition is to take Gray, whioh gives a Reform .majority of 250 or 800, out of the North Riding, and put it into the South, which already has over 1,000 of a Liberal majority, or p05• eibly into North Wellington. Then East Wawanosh, with a Liberal majority of 70, is to be baken from the West and put into the North. This would make the chances of a Liberal in the North ex- ceedingly slim ; in fact he would require be exceptionally popular to get a show all The West Riding already sup- posed to be a Conservative stronghold, is to be made more so by the addition of Stanley and Rayfield, now forming part of the South Riding. By this plan it is thought the Government would be able to elect two men in Huron instead of one as a Liberal would be nowhere in the West Riding, if the change is effeoted. Of course this rumor will be contradicted by those interested in defending the Gov. ernment, but we nevertheless believe that recommendations have been made to the Government t along this lino. ' no. The Canada Southern railroad division of the Michigan Central from St. Thomas to Windsor has long been coneidered the finest Qieoe of track in America, but the Canadian Pacific railway say their road from Windsor to Chatham will be still better. Some boys were playing in the rear of 28 Windsor avenue, London, Sunday morning and curioelty prompted them to pry open a box that they found in the yard. One glance in the box satisfied their curiosity, and they loot no time in notifying the people of the house that the contents of the box were human bonee. Officers Fox and Looter, whohappened to be going by, were called in, and Boon a tumor spread that a horrible murder bad been committed, and that the remains were packed in a box. In less time than can be imagined a crowd of nearly 200 gathered, and the policemen took the box and carried it to the polies station, the mob following, Officer Fox was sent to notify Coronet Lambert, and Officer Lester wont to notify Chief Heins, who is confined to the house by illness. When the doctor arrived and saw the contents of the box he said that they belonged to Bone medical student who had uirdoltbt• odly secured them from some Detroit hospital. Later on this proved correct, as the owner, a medical student, called and took thorn away. He said that ho had brought them over a few days ago. The custom officials say they donot know under what heading they would bo p tioocl, and they also have no Snake to place valuation on ouch ton importation, Fun Edunsbien came into force in Scotland on the first of October. This is far sooner than was expected. After that date about one-half of the Scottish to Probate duty, as provided by the Local at Government (Scotland) Bill, will be sat aside for the purpose of providing grataitots education in the first five standards. Many of the school boards have not confined this boon to the limit set down by the law, but have extended it to the sixth and ex -sixth standards as well. The distribution of the grant will be made in proportion to the average at. tendance of each school as shown by the annual returns. A. wheel board having vin g four hundred and six pupils under its jurisdiction has discovered that the grant, reckoned at thirteen shillings per head per annum, would yield £263 18s. With the same number of scholars last year, the fees paid to the board were £123 les 64, or 5140 is 6d under the Probate grant. This isa great gain to the Board. No piece of legislation has ever gratified the Scotch people more than this, Some parents were bard pressed and found dif- ficulty in making elide meet, but now that they have their burden removed their lot will be an easier one. The root crop i8 now well under Dover and a large breadth of fall plowing already p g 1 's re dy done and much more is under contemplation if the snow holds off a short time. I notice ibis branch of farm labor is rapidly Doming to the front as a practical necessity to insure oilmen for next year's crop, and at corn fodder is come to stay, I feel sure the more this is studied and tried the mora it will be 'planted. I have been feeding eight head of cattle on one aore of corn for six weeks and have plenty wore to feed ten bead until Christmas besides feeding my eight Chester hogs too. Here I might say, with good green clover or aim silage, I could winter, with a Tittle bran or shorts, bogs, cattle or sheep much more cheaply than the old way, as corn is much cheaper than roots and all stook eat it well -Many changes are baking plane.
