THE Grand Trunk, Canadian Pacific
and Michigan Central Railway Companys
have combined to raise the freight on
parcels less than 100 pounds to 45 Bente.
In Mr. Broughton's time, on the old
Great Western, the freight on smalls was
only 25 cents. When the Grand Trunk
took possession the rate was raised to 85
cents, and the people did not find fault,
but 46 oente is considered exorbitant. 13
is reported that the managere of the dif-
ferent roads are large stockholding in the
express companies and are playing into
their bands at the expense of the public
and to the detriment of the railways.

to get to Blyth, Clinton or Goderiob, as a
person could go to Goderioh and trans.
aot their business and return the same
evening. As it is the afternoon train is
our only connection. The morning train
spoken of would wait for our morning at.
commodation, getting at Clinton about
noon. The publio will wait with the hope
