tains a communicotion on tho Sohool
Board yummy by F. S. Scott. Ho up-
pearto manifesta wondirrful moonlit of
zeal for education, even to the saoriliolog
of bio political proclivities, but notions
spook londor than ivords. What groat
thugs has he done for oduoation ? We
wilt neo byanswering the following (loos-
tionere•Is it for the intorost of education
to keep a spatial friend of hie in as A
teacher at a largo salary? Ie it for tho
interest of education to engage a teacher
withoub0 certificate? Is it for the in-
terest of odueation, or lo it right either to
the teacher or the people, to engage to
Roman Catlittlie to Math in a Pro estant
community ? Is It just to the ratepayers
of this vhlage to allow outsiders to attend
the salmi frea, and increase tile ottond-
111,00 thereby, so thou it might appeor
necessary to have a teacher motto than is
reit Wood ? Is it right for a member to
bold his seat oti the Board a yrar longer
than be had a legal right to do so? Wag
it for the interest of the sohool to try to
prevent the use of the ballot at elections?
Is is right for ono man to run both the
Council and the School Board ? We
think Soott, and the powor behind the
throne, hat tried to monopolise the
School Board long enough. Two years
ago I pointed ont the moson of our ex.
panties being so moth higher than other
places, and also the remedy. Slime then
no oflort has been made by any member
of the Board (Bfra. Smith excepted) to
reduce the expenses, and' still Scott, in
his hitter, says it is impossible to do so,
and, of course, won't by, but if the people
elect a man that will do his toaby ho will
see Unit it is possible. It is not politica,
but dollars and cents. It is money in
the pocket of every ratepayer in Brussels
to do so. Reports have been circulated
that I am going to ruin the school, to run
it down. In answer to that I would say
the future will tell. However, I do say
every teacher will reoeive from roo all rho
assistance and encouragement in their
work I san give consistent with my duty
to the people and the requirements of tho
School Las. I appreciate the importance
and necessity of an efficient sohool edu.
cation equally as nmuly aa those who talk
so loud. Some blame Scott for being the
caoso of the election and the costa con.
nectcd therowith. That may lie so, bot
if he is eloctoti the unnecessary exoensos
of a teacher and room more than is re-
quired wi'l oast about $350 per annum,
which you will have to pay alf30, and
bora the electors, who, last winter, placed
Mr. Denman and I at the head of the
poll, will come out strong and elect Mr.
Gilpin, who ought to be elected by accht-
motion, with to largo majority

Observing a letter in Tin POST of the
1211i ins1., oritten by F. S. Soott, relative
to the election of a member for the
Sohool Board, I trust you will not con-
sider me prosumptuous in writing on
that subject, because I am really the
cause of this election and consequent
expense upon you. It is the opinion of
the press there, that, as the tato eleotioo
llama Mr. Gilpin very close to me in the
race, he now has a claim on the posibion.
Surely It does not follow from that result,
that if the three ancoessful candidates
bad not been in 'be field, Mr. Gilpin
would have headed the poll and beaten
those behind bim. Many who voted for
the three elrtated cencliclotos, might have
voted for Mr. Kerr or Dr. MoNaughton
in preform cm to Mr. Gilpin, and -0 I
think, the law toe, must consider there
is no possible claim, oleo some such pro-
viso as would give him tho seat would
surely have boon made. I am pleatiod to
hear Mr, smith say It° intends to become
cendieate, and, 1 think he hos some
claim cm rho position. He has hard oon-
siderable experience met understands
solmol law as well, if not bettor than any
present member of the Board. He has
always opposed polibios in sohool matters,
in fact when the sobool law was changer],
allowing the time for school elections to
ne held on the same day as the mini.
oipal elections, and the question was
brought before the Sohool Board of
Brunie, Mr. Booth objected to the
change on the ground that it would bring
politios into sehool matters. Was it not
a good objoetion ? I think so, for at the
nomination lest January both parties
deeply deplored the influenoo polities
posaessed, and he was right, for I know
I headed the poll CMG year, because 1 was
a Tory, and I also know I nearly footed
it two yettro Mem bemuse 1 would nob
go Tory in munioipal matters. In suppoeb
of Mr. Scott I moot say that during tho
two years I set ab the School Board with
bins 1 forma him always ready and
willing to promote the best interests of
the echool as economically aspossible,
