About $1,300 would suppl the dyeamo and all necessaries exeep the power and in surrounding towns th eorporation takes hold of the plank the reducing the cost of lighting very materi ally, We are aware of he financial ob ligations already resting on our should- ers as a municipality, but we believe fit- ted' men could be found in town willing to put in $180 apiece to manage the busi- ness if nothing else could be done. Eith, er of the two leading Electrio Light Com- panies in Ontario would give a trial test of 110 daYe, or thereebonts, if they saw a probability of consummating a bargain with the town. It will do no harm to dis- cuss this question freely aud the columns of Tug PiPAT are opei for short, practi. cal opinions; either for or !wettest project. Had wo gone to the expense afros mains, fixtures, ode, there would be a strong reason for not atlyanclote, but, as see stated last wart:, the cerporretion has not die cent invested in lighting apparatus, excepting the nee street lamp at the Tow, Hell. The engt of keening the electric light in order after the plant and power have been secured is a mere begot- telle. With all this and the contested election case to tale up much of tho short time left for the eessioe. it is likely that some impor- tant matter may be pinched on the 4th of Mereh, espeoially if a tariff discussion is yet to be indplged ie. There is no sort or , thence apparent for the tariff legis- lation, but the ways and means oum• seht00 expect to get action on the Mille reeeletion before adjournment. They expect to be ale to pass it ; they don't kno e certainly whether they can or not, but they propose to get an expression of opinion on the stibjeet. The Democratic Senators are making great efforts to secure action on the Pre. sident's late nominations. It is reported that they have some plan on foot by which they hope to force notion on some of those they aro most anxious about. It its suggested that thePresident may with- hold his approval from some of the measures the Republicans aro most in. terested in, and let them die on the 4111 of March if certain nominations are not confirmed. Senator Harris hes made a reeolution and there is no doubt that he will keep it. The failure of the Senate to confirm the President's appointment has decided the Tennessee Senator to make a motion daily to the end of the session to go into executive session and consider nominee flans. He finale that Mr. Cleveland's nominations to the number of 277 have been pigeonholed, In contrast, Presi. dent Arthur made 612 nominations sub- sequent to the election in 1881, and all hot 20 were confirmed, while Mr. Ihyos nominated 680 officials in the same period, and but few of them were not confirmed. A smash-up on the Teeswater branch of the C.P.R. occurred at Mt. Forest at 2 o'clock on Sunday morning, Owing to the heavy snow storm no trains readied there on Saturday. The train from the east, =elating of two engines, van and first and second coaches had orders to cross the elow and two enginee there. The rails heti apparently spread at the switoh, allowing the tender to cross the track, the two engines breaking looee. Tho baggage car struck the tank, damag- ing the tank, and the coaches followiorg left the rails and wero badly damaged. The two engines which broke 10040 kept on and ran for a mile and a quarter at great epeed, and fleetly stuok in a snow- drift. Tho plough from Teeswater, with two engines, ran into them, completely wrecking the four engines and knocking the plough into kindling treed. Vertu. nately no lives were lost.
