Cnooxs Ace.—John Brown, of Ford-
wieh, was brought before Justice Miller,
at Wroxeter, last week charged with sell-
ing liquor to one Wilson after being
notified, in writing, not to do so. The
evidence was somewhat aonfliothing, but
resulted in n fine of 910 and costs. This
we believe to be the first ease of the kind
ever tried in this county and Inspector
Miller deserves every credit for his de.

Funnnaa.—The funeral of the late Wm
McCullough, whose death was referred to
in last week's issue, took place on Satur-
day afternoon and Was largely attended.
The deceased was a member 20 years of
the Orange Order, so the Brueeels lodge,
reinforced by members from Walton,
Ethel, Sunshine and elsewhere to the
number of about one hundred, attended
the funeral in a body, headed by the
town band. The eerviees were conduct-
ed by Rev. M. Swann and 0o, Master
Young. Mr. McCullough had the re-
spect and esteem of all who knew him
for his sterling integrity.

the annual meeting of the Brussels
Branch of the Upper Canada Bible So.

tive and interesting lecture, occupying

He gave a great deal of very valuable
information in connection with the his-
tory of Babylon and its kings, particu-
larly Nebuchadnezzar and Belshazzar.
Although the reverend lecturer is nearly
75 years of age elle does his work most
efficiently and hie memory appears to bo

week Rev. G. B. Howie, of Brussels, and
Mies Sarah Spurr, of Toronto, were
united in the poly estate of matrimony
by Revds. D. J. Macdonnell and Dr. Par-
sons, at the residenoe of the bride's
mother, Gerrard street, Toronto. Bobt.
Knechtel, of this place, a medical student
at Toronto, was groomsman and Mies
Spurr, sister t0 the bride, bridesmaid.
Mr. and Mrs. Howie left Toronto on Sat-
urday and assn to Listowel where the
rev, gentleman preached on Sabbath.
They arrived in Brussels on rho after-
noon train on Monday and were met by
a delegation from his congregation and
driven to their home. On Tuesday
evening a welcome social was held at Dr.
MoNaughton's, in which upwards of one
hundred persons in oonueetxou with Xnox
church participated. After a splendid
zapper had been partaken of Elder
Strachan made an address of welcome to
Mrs. Howie which was suitably respoun-
ed to by /Mr. Howie. The evening was
pleasantly spent with music, social obat,
