The C. P. R. authorities, while they will exercise their proverbial courtesy to all delegations, have their eyes wide open for No. 1, and it is gener. ally conceded that by building the road this way the Company will best servo their own interests. The road would be a great convenience to this section of the country in the transaction of business at the county town, and the showing of ex- ports and imports in connection with the trade of the towns and villages along the proposed route will prove very satisfac- tory to the C. P. R. The railway com- mittecs of the various municipalities in- terestedl should bo on the alert. Tsez speech of Treasurer Jones on Manitoba finances has created a good deal of excitement. Wo must get out of the rut we are in, and the sooner the better, if we expect to hold our own in the friendly rivalry that exists between the surrounding towns and villages.
