FRIDAY, :(1'ItIL 20, 1888.
'Sage the Toronto people are pluming
thenlaelves about their observance of the
Sabbath they should also take into ao-
connt that their baseball club, "The To-
rontos," take it upon themselves to dese-
crate the day by playing exhibition games
with the American teams.
As Friday, May 4th, is Arbor day in
Ontario would it not be a good idea for
Brusselites to keen it by melting a num-
ber of very necessary improvements in
the cemetery ? Brussels is well supplied
with shade trees for the present and our
residents should help put the cemetery in
better shape.
TIIE C. 1'. R. EXTENSION.
The residents of Clinton and Seafortb
have been very busy lately in endeavor.
ing to further a scheme to have the pro-
posed extension o£ the C. P. R. from
Guelph to Goderich diverted so that it
will go through these towns. But while
they have been working their northern
neighbors have not been asleep and as a
result a public meeting will be held at
Listowel on Tuesday afternoon of next
week, when delegates are expected from
all ,he points interested on the proposed
northern route. We feel justified in say-
ing that this is the most feasible propo-
sition and likely to prove the moat re.
munativo for the C. P. R. The Listowel
Banner voices the opinion of the people
of this section in the following clipping ;
"The Canadian Pacific will undoubt-
edly before many months, perhaps weeks,
definitely locate their line from Guelph
to the Lake at Goderich. The instruc-
tions, so far as known. which they gave
to the engineers, who are tow running it
preliminary line, were to survey a straight
line between these two points and report
any difficulties in the way. Such a line
would pass through or very near to
Winterbourne, Wallenstein, Donegal,
Walton and Benmiller, not one of whioh
places is important ennugh to be ncor-
p' rated. It 1s incredible that the ren.
party would locate such a line when, b)
passing but a little to the north, several
important cent's.' would be tapped and a
much heavier traffic done. Fr' m the air
line Elmira is distant on . about thre,
quarters of a mile, Listowel but six
miler. Ethel about three, and Bru.eels
just four and a half. Un, the other side
of the air line, Seaforth •s eleven miles
south and Clint' n eight. This line if
dcflc, ted but Eli nal; t • -lith 'mud 1 after
reaching Listowel jai. :.t a strtn. I. liar
through Trowbridge, Ethel, Crewels,
Blyth, Benmilier and fiederieh, end the
natural difficulties cd such a lige 1• re, so
far as is known, the si ghtest of nay pro-
posed route. The meeting to be hold
heren Tuesday afternoon, April 24th,
will he a most important 0170 to the future
of Listowel and the other towns on this
line, and us ut'fisls steed IL de_I,n- uhu st
certain that united prompt' aetim, will
secure es the only line able '0 compete
with our pre eat syvteni. It is a chance
which is not lik' ly to offer again, and
nomle of ordinary jud ment, who wishes
for rasperity to our town, bat will
acknowledge that it is a ohaucu which
must not be thrown away:'

The following appeared in the Lock-
port, N. Y. Journal, of the 20th of March,
as a marriage notice; On Match 21st,
William Dulmage and Bina Smith, both
of Winghanl, Canada, appeared at the
Methodist parsonage on (holier(' street,
and were married by the Rev. J. W. San.
born, They departed for their Canadian
home after the ceremony.
The Vietgria (B. C.) Times of the 10th
says:—J. J. Wright, of the Point harm,
near Goderioh, one of the most popular
and best known bonifaees fo Western
Ontario, is in the city on bis way back
from California, where he spent the
winter, He met James Orr, M. P. P,,
whom he had not seen for 20 years, As
may bo imagined the greeting was a
cordial one.
The naughty editor of the Wingbam
Advance speaks as follows of the Gerrie
paper ;—A copy of last week's edition of
the Videtto should certainly be sent to
the British Museum, where it would be
inspected, preserved and handed down to
posterity, We imagine the editor and
proof-reader wore out making maple syr-
up or perchance had laid off a' work to
wash the office towel, and left the devil
to get out the paper.
Who can bent this ? T. P. Henderson
and Murdock J. McKay eut 10} cords of
beech and staple wood in 15 hours with
a racer saw purchased from T. Lawreuee,
and this wee done at the end of February
last when the wood was fionen. The
wood can be seen at School Section No
12, Aehfeld. If any one should doubt
this statement, the Berne parties have got
550 to say that they can cut 15 cords in
10 hours with the same saw.
Alex. McDonald, of Tuckersmith, has
been committed for trial by Charles
Snell, 1, P., of Exeter, on a charge of
fraudulently obtaining, by false pre.
tencee, the sum of 5300 from B. S.
O'Neil, banker, of Exeter. It appears
McDonald represented himself as owing
200 acres of land in Tuckeremith, and
that he was worth 512,000 over and above
all liabilities, and on the strength of
these statements mabe in writing he ob-
tained the loan from O'Neil.
MEETING os HURON MEDICAL AesOOLt-
TION.—There were present Dr. Young,
President ; Drs. Taylor, Gunn, Elliot,
Stanbury, Gordon, Smith, Evans, Chis-
holm, Worthington and Barkwell (stu-
dent). Two cases were presented for ex-
amination, one of the knee joint in a
young girl, which badibeen under treat-
ment for some time, and was getting
better ; the other a boy of 12 years, whose
history is a peculiar one. When about 1
year old he ate some green paper, and
was immediately attacked with violent
vomiting and purging, and from that
time he has had more or less hemorrhage
from the bowels, with soreness over the
abdomen. He gets better periodically,
and when his bowels are better his nose
begins to bleed, and contienee to do so
until his bowels are worse again. Sev-
eral very interesting aloes were reported
and altogether the meeting was a very
interesting and instructive one. The
day was about as unpropitious as it could
well be, yet this meeting, on Tuesday
was well attended. The interest in
these meetings is now so thoroughly es-
tablished, that there is very little danger
of the Association becoming other than it
is, except inoresing in membership and
interest. The next meeting will be held
Lt S' nforth, on the 2nd Tuesday in July.
A change from April to May will likely
b. made, to eatali better weather and
roads.
