No Rorsu,—The Town Hall was pack-
ed on Weduosday evening of last week at
the temperenee meeting. Scott Act wee
a grand success. Mr. Mclndoo was
elected chairman. Rev. Mr. McDowell ,
Methodist minister, of Wingham, spoke
briefly. Ile said temperance injured
none but helped many. Be hoped no
one would again license the terrible evil.
Rev. Mr. MoQtlarrie, Presbyterian min.
Teter, said moderato drinking could not
be indulged in, many -became drunkards.
Prohibition we wanted and the Scott Act
prohibited, so the antis say, for it takes
away his liberty. Dr McKenzie, of
Wingham, amid liquor mon did not send
him here but ho came on his own re-
sponsibilit0 to speak against the Scott
Act. He told about Woodstock, Goldwin
Smith, Robbie Burne, and made some
assertions that liquor drinking was in-
jurious but a person had a jolly good
time. He knew it was awful to see a
man in deUrirunt franca:, but no one need
drink that much. He called Mr. Mc-
Dowell to account for some expressione
used in a sermon, Mr. McDowell said
his chetah was founded on the principles
of temperance, and he would not go back
on what he said. Rev. W. A. McKay, of
Woodstock, was the next speaker, and
the spealto. of the evening. Ho said
Bruce, where he had been ton nights,
was all right. He said Woodstock was
all richt, and he showed clow the Scott
Act had been a suttees there. He did
not think that his friend the Dr. could
convert the Methodists, they were: ,olid
for the Scott Aot. He, as a Presbyter-
ian, was sure they would do their duty,
as also the Baptists and English church,
Ile asked temperance mon to say the
