Summit RAOEs.-For weeks, if not
ontha, the races at Brussels have been
e aubjeot of conversation both far and
az and as a ooneequenee it is not to be
wondered at that well on to 2,000 people
attended on Thursday of late week. All
the towns and villages for miles aroond
were represented, Wingham, especially,
turning out en masse. The first event
called was the matched raoe between J,
Swartz pacing horse "Walter G." and
Beattie Bros. trotting mare "Wanda."
Great interest centred in this test, more
particularly as hundreds if not thousands
of dollars were staked upon it, "Walter
G." won the let, Ord and 4th heats and
the mare the 2nd. The little chestnut
was known to be a good horse but few
were prepared to credit the fact that a
four-year-old green mare could with a
few week's handliug, strike a 2:30 clip
but she did. Following is the sum-
mary ;-

Heavy rain set in before this raoe was
completed so that the time made in the
3rd and 4th heats was slow on ao0ount
of a heavy track. In the named race out
of five entries three horses started -
'Sandy H.," "Daisy Harris" and "Daisy
B." The latter was distanced and a
closely contested race took place between
the other two, the horse finally securing
the winning heat on Friday afternoon.

The other events on the program were
postponed until Friday afternoon on
account of the downpour of rain, and the
large turnout of spectators made haste to
seek it place of ehelter. In the 8 minute
raoe on Friday "Lord Tennyson," from
Clinton, had a waik over taking 8 straight
beats. There were 8 other horses in the
contest "Bernie Ward," of Harriston, be-
ing diatanoed in the 2nd heat. Sum-

TEE TRAVELLING DAIRY. -The travel-
ling dairy, in charge of G. E. Day and
W. J. Hume, has just completed its tour
of East Huron. Meetings have been
held at Winthrop, Londeaboro', Walton,
Brussels, Ethel, Fordwieh, Wroxeter,
Bluevale and Wingbam, Fairly good
audiences have greeted the dairy ; fn most
of these places there seemed to be dad.
cient advertising. The general impres-
sion seems to be that, could the dairy
come around again, the audiences would
be much larger, but as this is impossible,
farmers would do wen to take advantage
of the opportunities offered. Dairying
is of growing importance in Ontario, and,
the more that is known of this important
industry, the better for the agriculturist
as it offers a means of increasing his
profits and improving the fertility of the
soil. The Babcock tester still attracts
much attention, though farmers should
beware of placing too much stress upon a
single test. The main object in exhibit.
ing this tester ie to call attention to the
device and illustrate its importanoe to
the breeder of dairy stook. An eight
bottle machine may be obtained for about
610, while several farmers might olub to.
gather, making the coat to each Very
email indeed. The dairy is now in the
west riding, and it is hoped that all
farmers will aid in making its work as
efficient as possible.
