Trow was defeated by Mr. Pridham, of Fnilarton township. Farmer candidates have been a suecees in Perth Co. as in• etanoed by be election of T. Magwood, M. P. P., J. Grieve, M. P., and now Mr. Pridham. In Monk on Saturday J. Boyle, Conservative, was elected by a large maiority and on Tuesday Mr. Guilleb, Conservative, was returned for West Northumberland. Tin election for the looal ae•emhly passed off quietly in Queben province Tneeday of last week Montreal eleoted six Coneervetivee and Quebec pity two Conservatives and two Liberate. The most notable incidents of the election were the defeat of lion. Joseph Robert• son in Sherbrooke, by Mr. Panneton, another Conservative, who was placed in the field by 1Ir, Ives M. P., the defeat of Mr. Rechen in Ottawa county and the probable defeat of Mr. Peupere in Pent. lac, The Conservatives elected fifty.two and the Libe ale and Indedendants twentyone. The position of parties in the assembly has been completely revers- ed. En the ht it house the Liberate had twenty six majority. The Conserva- tives will have over thirty majority wheu the leglebature next meet.. Since elec. tion day Mr. Mercier has tendered his resignation and will take a trip to France to regain bis health whiuh has been very poor of late. It is quite evident that the moral sentiment of the Quebec electorate is better than in some other portions of this broad Dom. inion, judging by their actions. Taa temperance people of Bressele should wake up and prove by their ao tions that their principles are well grounded. A Royal Templars Connuil established some time ago, flourished for a ,year like the proverbial "green, bay tree," but of late the interest has lagged badly and the institution has been kept. running by a few who have stood by the Prohibition banner bravely. Something mast be done, however, ,nd 'hat at once. What will it be ? Will the ministers, church workers and temperance 'elk generally back up the cause and do the work inemubetit noon then or will the oreenizatiou die for watt of support? Dont nay you have no time for very like. ly von are not any more crowded with wm'k than those who do attend, It is nothing to the credit of the Tem„erauee cause to say the above but it would be a backward moveineet to allow the Welled to die. The ,ext meeting will be held on Tneeday evening of next week when you are asked to attend of yuu are a m m .er and in addition to Mb; make an effort to increase the membership by seourieg a few new names.
