CHRISTMAS.
Christmas again 1 I hear the bells
Ring joyful on the frosty air ;
Some sweet 000ee on my spirit steals
To greet a season once so fair.
The sun above the snowy bills
Rises to bless the hallowed day ;
U 1 oould the memory of life's ills
For one glad moment melt away 1
If but one brief, one blessed hour,
The well -beloved, so pale, so cold,
Could win from kindly Heaven the power
To mingle with us as of old.
If they their old time haunts might seek,
And page familiar thresholds o'er ;
Could we but hear them fondly speak,
And touch their loving hands once more.
How would our hearthstones, cold and
gray,
With flames of ruddy gladness glow ;
Conld their sweet presence crown the day
What healing to our hearts would flow.
Our aching hearts, so sad, so sore,
That yearn with hopeless pain to hear
A. single loving word once more
From lips long silent, yet so dear.
O l day of memories, day of pain 1
What bitter-sweet remembrance flows,
0 1 belle, along your sweet refrain,
That ou the graoione morning grows.
Christmas in heaven I how does it fare
With those who once with as below
Shared life's sweet tasks, its daily care ;
Who all our joys and sorrows know 2
What mean to them our memories fond,
Our longing and our vain regret ;
Is there no yearning love beyond
For 110 who mourn and love them yet
0 Christ, who long ago wae•born
In Bethlehem, come Thou we pray,
Come on this blessed birthday morn
And toaoh us how our griefs to lay
Upon Thy heart of love and rest
In Thy oompaesion, sura
That in Thy presence, ever bleat,
Our well beloved met eeonre.
Chime on; sweet bells, the sunlight glows,
Ring in, ring -out your silver bars,
The while the yearning wonder grows
What Christmas means beyond the
stars.
THE VERDICT OF DEATa.
How does Death speak of our beloved
when it has laid them low ;
When it has set its hallowing touch
On speechless hp and brow ?
It olothue their every gilt and grace
With radiance from the holiest place,
With light 58 from an angel's face.
Recalling with resistless force
And treeing to their hidden sourer,
Deeds scarcely noticed in their course.
This little, loving fond device,
That daily act of saorifioe,
Of which, too late, we learn the price.
Opening our weeping eyes to trace
Simple, nnnotioed kindnesses,
Forgotten notes of tenderness
Which evermore to us must bo
Snored as hymns in infancy
Learned listening at a mother's knee.
Thue done Death speak of our beloved

Elaborate measurements have been
made of the remarkable 0i -ounce baby
which was boric to Samuel Donaldson, of
Camden N. J., last week. Pbe child is
18 inches in height -about as long as the
average doll that children ofpeople in
moderate circumstances play with. In
tact the clothes prepared for her were so
much too bigthat doll's clothes had to
be subsbitoted. Her cheat is about three
inches in width. That means that the
little girl's ohest is not so broad as the
average door knob. Her head is 23
inches in diameter. A tea•oup oan be
put over it without touching. The head
is but little larger than an ordinary ben's
egg. If it wore possible for tiny Miss
Donaldson to walk she would take stepa
hardly more than hall a span in length.
Her legs are six inches long, and her foot
is an iuoh and a half in length, That is
shorter than the little finger of an ordin•
cry man. If ithe tiny girl oould stand
erect, a silver half -dollar would make a
platform more than big enough for her,
and she oould walk around comfortably
in an ordinary glass tumbler. Small

across, Doubled up as Sets they are not
moll bigger than a Malaga, grape. A
postage stamp would almost cover either
hand if all the fingers were fully spread
out.' The baby's eyes and ears are min-
iature marvels of coloring and modeling.
The eyes areyblaok dots, full of anima-
tion and speculation. They are as big
as peas and as bright as dew drops. Her
ears are half an inch wide. They 'are
perfectly formed and look like delicately
carved rose petals. The baby's senses
are all perfect. She takes nourishment'
heartily, Dries lustily whenever her
parents need correction, and chuckles
joyfully when she is amused,
