AN IMPOSSIBLE GIRL.
Once on a time there lived a maid
Who never was of mice afraid ;
A perfect game of whist she played,
Thie maid entrancing.
Of gowns and styles she never talked,
Attempts to oompliment she balked,
For exercise she only walked—
She hated dancing.
She wore no loud, queer•oolored glove,
She never yet had been in love ;
Her burean held no picture of
The latest actor.
And, furthermore, she never went
To matinees, nor ever spent
Her change for soda ; roses anent
Could not attract her.
Of slang she never used a word,
Of flirting she had never heard ;
Sooiety—it seem, absurd—
She never cared for.
At gay resorts, where men were not,
She never seemed to ogre a jot ;
'Until the mothers wondered what
The girl was there for.
No one will know front whence she name,
She left no record but her fame ;
Not even can we learn her name,
Or what her station.
When did she live ? How did she die ?
She lived in fanny. It's a lie.
I've only tried to practice my
Imagination.
FORA LITTLE BIRD TILLS.
It's strange how little boys mother,
Oen find it all out, as they do,
If a fellow does anything naughty,
Or says anything that's not true 1
They'll look at you jnet a moment,
Till your heart in your bosom swells,
And then they know all about it—
For a little bird tolls I
Now, where the little bird comes from,
Or where the little bird Boss ;
If he's covered with beautiful plumage,
Or black as the king of orowe ;
If lila voice is es hoarse as a raven,
Or as clear as the ringing hells—
know not, but this I am erre of—
A tittle bird tells 1
The moment you think "dug wioked,
The moment you do a thing bad ;
Are angry, or sullen, or hateful,
Get epunky, or stupid, or mad ;
Or tease a dear brother or sister—
That instant your sentence he knells,
And the whole to mamma in a minute
That little bird tolls 1
You may be in the depth of the closet,
Whore nobody nee but a mouse;;
You may bo all alone in the cellar,
You may bo on the top of the house
You may be in the dark and the silence,
Or out in the woods and the dells—.
No matter I Wherever it happens,
The little bird tells 1
1
And tire only eontrivanoe to stop him
Is just to be sure what to Buy—
Sure of your tante and you, tangle,,
Sura of your work and your play ;
13e honest, be bravo, and be kindly ;
Be gentle and loving air well,
And then you oan laugh at the Aeries
The little bird tolls 1
FAIR P703368
A country Fair—
Ain't it fun,
Al I3obonygoon
Or at Hamilton!
Charring country girl,,
Though not in style,
With eyes that kill
At half it mile.
Rosy cheeks,
Splendid form,
Always the earns,
In calm and storm.
Country swain,
With grit and sand,
Walks with ducky,
Hand in hand.
Down in pocket
Gose hie hand,
She stops short,
Refreshment stand.
Cocoanut and Dandy,
Half watermelon nob,
Too arena] follows,
Then a pear or peach..
In searching fun
Everyone's intent,
Everybody's happy,
Enjoymeut innooent.
Home once more,
In parlor there,
Blg hearted swain
And maiden fair.
We mustn't wait
To see it through,
Act the same myself,
Wouldn't you ?
FOUR BEDTILMES.
"Cluck, cluck,oluck," said the hen,
"'Tie time this little ohiuk went to bed,
Or you'll live to be a fowl
Wbiah in the night will prowl
And be taken for an owl," she said.
Then without a Bingle peep
The ahiok want off to Bleep,
Soft tuolred in its waren feather bed,
"Purr, purr, purr," said the oat,
"'Tie time thio little kit went to bed,
Or you'll grow to bo a eat
That cannot catch a rat—
And you wouldn't much like that," she
Maid.
Then the kitten in a trine
Slept, and dreamed of catching mice,
Wrapped in far in her basket bed.
"Bow.wow.wow," said the dog,
"'Tie time this little puppy wont to bed,
For playing in the dark
Will take away your bark,
And you'll never make your mark," she
Maid.
Then the puppy stopped his play,
And went to bed straightway,
Curled up on his clean straw bed.
"Come, come, come," said mamma,
""Tis time this little boy went to bed,
To sleep throughout the night,
And with the morning light
To awaken fresh and bright," ahs said.
But that boy did tease and tease—
"Let me sit up this ones, please,"
And at last was carried pouting off to bed.

From the Deaver, i apaneo,0ut,
Among the young ladies of Napanee
there is none better known or more high.
ly esteemed than Miss Mary L. Byrnes.
Indeed her acquaintance and popularity
covered a more extended Seld, as she is a
travelling saleslady for the Robinson
Corset Co., and bas many. customers on
her route, which extrude from Oshawa
to Ottawa. How this young lady hap-
pens to be the subject of this artiolo ie
due to the fact that she has recently
undergone a remarkable change through
the use -of these wonderful little messen.
gees of health, Dr. Williams' Pink Pills.
When the reporter of the Beaver palled
to make enquiry into bee cure, he was
met at the door by the young lady her.
self, whose rosy cheeks and healthy ap-
pearanee gave no indication that she had
r-,,
undergone a protonsed Milne. The re.
porter mentioned his minion and found
Miss Byrnes quite willing to tell the par.
Hoiden of what she termed "nu escape
from death." In reply to the query
"what have De, William's Pink Pills
done for you 1" she replied, "why they
have done wonders. I feel like a new
woman now. For night years I was
weak and miserable, and at times I
could not walk. I was greatly troubled
with indigestion, and frequently could
nob keep anything on my atomaob, not
even a gimes of milk. I had dizzy epelte,
severe headaches, and my omnploxion
was of a yellowish hue, lily kidneys

aohes and pains. In going up a flight of
stairs I had either to be assisted tip, or
would have to root several times before I
got to the top. At tinier my bande and

He told me that my system was Ba bad-

with no better results. I became so low

gone into o0nsumption. It was at this
jnniture that I determined to give Dr.
Williams' Pink Pille a trial, and my ap.
pearance today will allow you what a
wonderful change they have wrought in
me. I continued taltiug the Pink Pills
for three months, and before disoontinu.

this wonderful mediolue, and I am eager
to let the foot be known for the benefit of

Mrs. Byrnes was present during the
interview and strongly endorsed whether
daughter said, adding that she believed
they had saved her life.
The experience of years bas proved
that, there is absolutely no disease due
to a vitiated condition of the blood or
shattered nerves that Dr. Williams' Piuk
Pills will not promptly sure, and those
who are suffering from such troubles
would avoid much misery and save
money by promptly resorting to this
treatment. Get the genuine Pink Pills
every time and do not be persuaded to
take an imitation or some other remedy
from a dealer, who, for the sake of extra
profit to himself, may say is "just as
good," Dr. Williams' Pink Pills cure
when other medicines fail.
