OnrxvAur.--tlu Monday morning of last
week much gloom was cast over our burg
wben a message was received announcing
the death of Miss Jennie Million. She
had taken suddenly ill on Saturday morn-
ing and at 11 o'clock on Saturday even-
ing her spirit had passed away in tran-
quility. Miss Million has been teaching
in the junior department of our school
for the last two and a half years. She
received her education in Walkerton High
School, where in 1808 she obtained her J
3rd class certificate and during the Au.
tumn of the same year attended the
Model School at Goderioh. In January
of 1804 she came here to begin her deities
as a teacher, and has since made many
friends who now mourn the loss of one 50
dear and kind. Miss Million was a true
Christian and during her stay in Ford-
wioh she was au active worker in the
Christian Endeavor and Sabbath School
of the Presbyterian church, and her pres-
ence and assistance there will be greatly
missed.

Jas. Kerr, of the Northern gravel road,
MoKiliop, brought into town a sample of
'ore which he had taken from the bowels
of the earth on his farm. They were
drilling a well, and when the drill 0080
down about 120 feet it was drawn out,
and in the midst of the sand and gravel
which adhered to it, was this ore. It ie
encased in a dark colored atone. This
stone, when viewed under a magnifying
glass, sparkles with a bright substance
like gold or copper. Indeed this sub.
stance is quite discernible even by the
naked eye. The stone, although soft, is
much heavier than an ordinary stone,
showing that itis impregnated with some
metallic 0ubetance, whatever it may be.
Mr. Kerr intends Bending a sample to
Toronto to have it analyzed by an expert
and we will know shortly what hie opin.
Ion of it Is. We hope our young friend
may have struck look, and that before
long he will be parcelling out hie line

Christ always preached to the sinners
that were in the house, no matter wheth.
er they were rulers in the synagogue or
not.
The minister who tvoold awaken his
people for their eternal good must open
the Bible wide enough to show them
what is in it.
There is still an r
ood deal of religion '
g g
the world That consists in putting the big
sound apples on the top of the basket.
The preaching that is not "with author.
ity" may tinkle the ear, ,but it will not
strike deep enough to rech the heart.
Some preachers are afraid to open the
Bible very wide for fear they will have to
die in the poorhouse. '
The Jews probably learned to drive
sharp bargains with men by first trying
to do the same thing with God.
Every church has just as many oonver-
sions in ib as the spiritual condition of its
membership will warrant,
The preacher should pray that every
time he opens the old book in the pulpit
somebody will find it new.
Anybody can talk about religion in an
entertaining way, but only those that
have it can make others want it.
How many people there are who would
be splendid Christians if God would al-
ways keep them in a tight place.
Whenever the devil is called by his
right name in church, some man on the
front seat always gets his feelings hurt.
It is the office of the Holy Spirit to
convince of sin, but it is the preachers
business to keep hie church awake.
It is safe for the devil to sleep when lie
goes to church and sees that the preach.
ing is not keeping anybody awake.

Sir—Having been troubled for nearly
a year with bronchitis, eta., and using
doctor's medicines, including hypophos-
phitee and emulsions of cod liver .oil, I
am now determined to try you, as you
once, some twelve years ago, cured my
mother, Mrs. Jas. Drummond, of the 0th
ooncession of Bruce.
I have had three attacks of la grippe
and the bronchial tubes are affected.
Dr. XX sounded me last Winter and
found one lung slightly affeoted. I tools
a trip last March through Manitoba to
British Columbia and spent all Summer
till fall in the mountains. I felt then
like a new man, but caught cold since I
came back. I don't feel well, coughing a
good deal, and bard cloggy phlegm some.
times from my throat. I feel confident
you can core me. My doctoring has
cost me a good deal. I am now alone on
the old farm, and cannot afford such
expenses again. Poor lookout. This
certainly does not give you the chance
others had, and I am to blame.
Yours, H. T. DBOIDEOun.

J. M. McLeod, Goderioh :
Dear Sir—I humbly beg to apologize
for not writing to you before, as I
promised, but I was well and forgot it all.
00 January 21st, 1800, I began to take
your medicines and from that day I be -
gen to mend right on. I took the System
Renovator before mettle three times a
day and the Specific Cure for throat,
Dough and lunge half an hour after meals,
and applied the linament to the chest as
directed. I did not mise a dose till I
took all. The Renovator gave me a ,good
appetite and I slept well every night. I
can say that I am a different man alto-
gether ever slice I finished telling it. I
believe my. faith in yourself for what
you once did for my mother helped mo
to pay strict attention to the directions,
If I should ever. get 0iok again I shall
asenredly go back to you. The rest of
the family are now in California, well
and doing well. Mother was pleased to
hear bow you had oared me. Again I
would beg pardon for my negligence, I
am your friend.
