ANOTHER MrresxoNe.-THE BRUasELs
Pose has passed another milestone, hav•
lug entered on its 94th volume. A
peculiar feature about THE POST is that
while it is always growing older it still
retains its youth, and is as sprightly as a
two•year•old steer, (this is cue of THE
Pose's favorite metaphors.) It keeps its
readers remarkably well `posted," and
allows nothing more objeotionable to ap•
pear in its columns than "please pay up -
tee want money," but the editor'a joking
propensities are so well known that even
this terse phrase is hardly aver taken
seriously. It is a remarkably good news-
paper, and the editor can write his jokes
with bis eyes abut or with his left baud,
iu fact some of them are left•handed.
Hie enemies charge that some of his best
items are written with a paste brush and
pair of scissors, hub this we believe to be
hyperbolical. At any rate the New Era
congratulates THE POST ori its stability,
progress and prosperity. -Clinton Now

Annnoos Aon PRESENTATION. -Last Sat-

gagman at Brussels G. T. R. depot, went
to his home in Ripley to spend Sunday.
On arrival he was osoorted to the resid•

goodly company of members and adher•

led. Rev. G. M. Franklin, incumbent,
read the following complimentary address
to Mr. Smith and Mies Hattie Ilodgin
presented him with a gold watch case :-
To Angus Smith, :-
Dna SIa,-A few of your many
friends in Ripley connected with the
congregation of St. Paul's eburch, hav-
ing learned of your well deserved pro-
motion to another station on the Grand
Trunk railway, which will remove you
from our midst, cannot allow you to part
from us without some expression of our
good will towards you. Yost friends are
gratified to bear of your appointment to
n more lucrative position, while we
sincerely regret the break in your social
and religious and imolai connection with
ne which your removal entails. Your
readiness, at all times, to be of any as-
BistanOe, in any direction, in your power ;
your ready zeal for Ilia welfare of our
choir, in which yon have nerved so ao•
ceptaely, so long, and with such Dom•
mendable regularity ; besides your large -
hearted :.ympathy in nil that was good,
and kind mud true. These qualities,
which we have found io you, have won
our respect, and we can only hope, as
every one of us sincerely most do, that
your futon may be marked by the
recognition of your merit, and that long
life, prosperity and peace may constantly
distinguish your oereer, On behalf of
but a few of your many wsll•wishers, we
ask your aeoeptanee of this tangible
token of our esteem, which we trust, will
servo to remind you of your absent
friends.
The recipient made a brief but suitable
reply, thanking the donors for the gener-
ous gift. Following this came a well
prepared supper, to which ample justice
was done. A short program of toasts
was proposed, including "The Queen,"
"Our Guest" and the "Host and Roston"
and abort speeches were elioited from
Rev, Mr. Franklin, T. W. Davis, A.
Smith and R. J. Graham. The very
pleasant proceedings were brought to a
termination by all joining in the National
Anthem, and wishing Mr. Smith pros-
perity in hie new position at Brueael8.
Tun POST extends a oordial tvel nine to
