THE IVOMAN OE THE FUTURE.
Oh I The woman of the future I Sound
the trumpets—beat the drums 1
She has donned the coat and breeches and
in triumph on she comes ;
She has fixed her vengeful optic on the
trembling tyrant man,
Slie bits sworn to quit the bondage of the
• washtub and the pan.
She has sworn to crush the despot, and
to puff his batt cigar,
Sworn to spout from many a pulpit, and
to practice at the bar,
Sworn to clip her flowing ringlets, wlleth
er auburn, black or brown,
And to raise upon :her upper Hp a tiny
crop of down.
She will come as comes a conqueror and.
she'll scorn to bill and coo,
And she'll whistle for her darling when
she oomes to win and woo ;
And she'll brave the boot oapaoione of our
own irate papa,
And she'll hug us fu -a frenzy when we
bid her "Ask mammal"
And she'll leave us in the evening, :toying,
"Roth the oradle, John 1 '
If you're lonesome, darn some stookinge,

Pray be careful that you don't disturb the
baby's soft repose,
And you'll find hie feeding bottle close

And the pride of mon Shall dwindle and

The day was nearly gone,
And he'd been keeping tab a weak,
And new °nee oalmo enol` day,
By two and two from everywhere,
Which Noah stowed away.
He knew he soon would have a load,
Suet as he had`eo planned,
And that he'd be away on time
And be the Arst to land,
Then Noah smiled in pleased content,
And feeling downright glad,
He took the Meeapotarnia "Tinea";
And read hie auto "want ad,'

Old Nosh laid the paper down,
And smiling said "Bedad,
I never wonld have got a load
Without that little ad."
POLITICAL.
The Ottawa correspondent, of the To-
ronto Star says :—"Summing up the
whole situation, It looks like a elean
sweep for the Liberals in the I'Vest."
We clan get rid of the Tappers in June,
but many Junes will pass before we get
rid of the debt they have so freely be•
stowed on a long.suffnriug Dominion.
Canada's revenue from the 8200 put up
by eaoh oandidate who will lose hie de.
posit on Tule 23rd ought to wipe; out at
least a half section of the national debt.
The elections are in 'June, and if there
Is anything in a mouth ft will be remem•
bared that the last eleetion held through-
out Ontario in June was a brilliant via -
tory for Liberalism.
It is darkly hinted that a distinguished
citizen of Ontario has been asked to join
the Tupper combination. The Govern-
ment organs, growing wary by esperi•
ence, do not mention his name. He
might take to the woods,
An Ottawa correspondent who knows
writes :—"Sir Mackenzie Bowen has gone
to Belleville. He will take no part in the
campaign, and no one in Oauada will
rejoice more heartily over the defeat of
the Government next June than he will."
Hot:. T. 111, Daly goes to England on
the 10th inst. along with Sir Mackenzie
Bowel!. Mr. Daly goes in connection
With immigration matters. Besides vis-
iting Britain Air. Daly will go to Paris,
where he will inspect the work of the
immigration ofacea.
The entry of Sir Oliver into Dotninion
public life, as Ontario liouhnant to Zion.
Wilfrid Laurier, the most popular Can-
adian leader of modern times, will be
reoeived by the admirers of both states-
men with unbounded enthusiasm, and
make the assurances of victory, now be.
ing received from every part of the coun-
try, doubly sure.
The Chatham Banner says :—"During
the last three weeks the farmers of this
distriot have sold over 150,000 dozen of
eggs, whish have been shipped East and
West. Tbey are receiving for them 7
'cents per dozen, just 8 cents below De-
troit prices. Where is the N. P. ? A
loss of $4,500 on a trifle of eggs is evident-
ly not uouaidered worth noticing."
One.fourth of the Government recently
formed at Ottawa are members -of the
Tupper family compaot :—Sir Charles
Tapper, sr. ; H, J. Macdonald, Stewart
Tupper's law partner and bosom asso-
ciate; Sir Hibbert Tupper; Sir Charles
Tupper's nephew, Arthur Dickey. Those
members of the family who are not
members of the Cabinet are housed in
fat Government owes.
Rev. W. G. Henderson, of Winnipeg,
who was oat preaching to the Oddfeliows
in Moosomin, says he spoke to several
life-long Conservatives who have never
yet oast a Liberal vote, who will now vote
and work for Mr. Douglas, the Liberal
candidate, and the Conservatives seem to
have the idea that defeat is before them.
This is the general report throughout the
Dominion.
The Hon. Peter White, Speaker of the
House of Commons in the late Parlia-
ment, says in bis election address :—"I
am opposed to the policy of i the Govern-
ment on
overn-menton the Manitoba school question,
as I am fully convinced that no legisla•
tion of the Dominion Parliament on tt
question so essentially Provincial as edu-
cation oat be effectually enforced on an
unwilling people, and 1 oannothelp think-
ing that the adoption of such legislation
will bring about a conflict with the
Province of Manitoba and become a fruit-
ful source of irritation, which sbould, if
possible, be avoided."
A victory for Laurier and Mowat
would mean the formation of a strong
united Government. Upon bbe Manitoba
sohool question the Liberal party bas a
policy that makes for settlement instead
of for conflict. The appointment of a
-commission of inquiry would remove the
question out of Feclel'al politics for the
tflno being and probably for all time to
come ; for in all probability it would re.
Salt in the making of a fair and friendly
arrangement. The people of Manitoba
have tihelnselves asked for an inquiry, and
would, thor'oforo, be predisposed In favor
of the conclsaious atwbiah the commis-
sion might arrive. Mr, Laurier has not
only the desire to make a settlement, but
Ise is in favor of the only mode of settle•
ment that is aaceptable to the people of
Manitoba, And the will have by hie side
Sir Oliver Mowat, whose skill and ex-
perience in settling difficult questions
will be invaluable.
