BAND PARADE,-Thareday evening of
last week the town Band and the fife and
drum Band gave a concert in Maitland
Mink. The music was tip.top, the
"British Grenadiers" by the combined
Bantle being a specially good number.
This Was the first appearance of the fife
and drum boys, There were 16 of them
tefrned out, representing 3 snare and 1
bass drums, triangle, flute, clarionet and
8 fifes. H. L. Jaokeon is the instructor,
from whom the ,Orange Lodge procured
the mueical outfit. Praotioe will be kept
up for the coming 12th of July Gslebration
in Breathitt.

HOUSD of REFUGE, -Thursday of last
week the House of Refuge Committee,
Messrs. Eilber, McDonald and Holt, also
the Warden, met in Olintoo to determine
some necessary additions and the pur•
chase of implements, &o. In order to
prepare for Spring work Inepeotor Coats,
Manager French and Reeve McDonald
were authorized to purchase a team of
farm horses to weigh about 2,600 lbs.
Implements will be procured as follows :-
One single plow, two. furrow plow, spring
tooth cultivator, waffler, pair iron her -
rows, land roller, Beed drill, ladders,
heavy waggon, buggy,&o. A new cistern
or cisterna will be put in to supply tbe
Home with soft water, and plane for the
snare will be drafted. Sketches for an
extension Of the building will be made in
order to secure more room, the present
hospital space being occupied for more
suitable purposes. Some small furniture
was ordered for the dootor's office.
CONSERVATIVE OLv0,-At the Conserva-
tive Club meeting on Tuesday evening
the debate ryas on "Resolved that the
centralization of trade is hot detrimental
to the welfare of a country," The
affirmative was sustained by Jas. Irwin
and A. I. McCall, while Thee. Farrow
and R, L. Taylor upheld the negative.

gave his deoieion in favor of the affirm.

TonoNTo, Ont., March 31. -The Toron-
to cattle market to•day was very dull.
Reoeipts were 36 oars, inoluding 386
sheep and Iambs, 1,088 hogs and 100
calves. Buying for Montreal was Small,
only two oars being taken. Retaliate'
cattle were slow ; beet sold at 3;fe per
pound, but common to medium grade
sold at 2ic to Bo. Stoakere and feeders
quiet and prices nominal, at 2ao to 2}c
per pound for light stockers, and 30 to
8}c for half -fat feeders. Exporters, it is
said, will not begin to send cattle from
byres till the first week in May. Sheep
and lambs dull ; lambs lower at 3o to 4c
per pound -the latter for choice. Sheep
cold at $4 to $5 eaoh. Oalves were In
good supply and dull, at 92.50 to 96 eaoh.
Milch cows and epriugere dull, at 915 to
$36 eaoh. Hoge weak, no large offerings,
and beet sold at $8.75 per cwt,
EAST BUFFALO, N. Y., March 31. -Oat•
tee closed steady, with all sold. Hoge
closed dull end weak ; late sales of York-
ers at $4,1271 to 94.15 ; a few decks of
both light and heavy unsold. Sheep and
lambs cloaed dull, with several deoke un•
sold; a few good 88•pound lambs sold at
$4.74.
