Irwin and A. I. McCall, while Thee. Farrow and R, L. Taylor upheld the negative. B. Gerry was chairman and umpire and gave his deoieion in favor of the affirm. alive. The speakers of the affirmative gained the debate by arguing that a centralization of trade if properly 00n• duoted and under the supervision of the Government would not be detrimental, but admitted that the centralizing of trade by departmental stores, as found to day, le detrimental. Buying for Montreal was Small, only two oars being taken. Retaliate' cattle were slow ; beet sold at 3;fe per pound, but common to medium grade sold at 2ic to Bo. Stoakere and feeders quiet and prices nominal, at 2ao to 2}c per pound for light stockers, and 30 to 8}c for half -fat feeders. Exporters, it is said, will not begin to send cattle from byres till the first week in May. Sheep and lambs dull ; lambs lower at 3o to 4c per pound -the latter for choice.
