father of Mrs. (Rev.) Ross, of Brussels :—
We are called upon this week to record
the death of Alex. Watt, which took
place at hie late. residence, Nicbol,
on Wednesday evening of last. week. Air.
Watt was in his usual health and par•
ticolarty brigbt and happy until about
4 o'clock that afternoon, when he com-
plained of a pain in the region of the
heart, and gradually became weaker,
sinking away about 8 o'olook that even•
ing. Mr. Watt was in hie 08th year, be -
Mg perhaps the oldest member of our
community. Deoeased was born in Scot-
land, and came to this part of the anus.
try over 00 years ago. He was for over
50 years an elder of Knox church, being
the last of the arab twelve members who
formed that congregation. He leaves be-
hind 'him five daughters and two sons,
besides a large number of grandchildren
to mourn his lose. Mra. Watt predeceas-
ed hien about two years ago. The family
have the sympathy of an unusually large
nnmher of Heeds in their bereavement.
The funeral was held on Saturday after-
noon at 1:30 o'cloolt. 'After a short
service at his late residence, the remains
were removed to Knox ohorob, where a
very impressive funeral service was hold,
presided over by the Rev. Mr. McInnes,
paetor of the church, The services com-
menced by the singing of the 100th
Psalm, after which the Rev. Mr. Mullen,
of Trowbridge, read suitable portions of
Scripture and Dr. Torranoe sagaged in
prayer. Very impressive and appropriate
addresses were then given by Dr. Tor.
ranee, of Guelph, and Dr, McDonald, of
Seaforth. A hymn was then sung and
the benediction pronounced by Dr. Mid•
dlemis, after whioh an opportunity was
given to the many friends assembled to
have a last view of the Lace of their be-
loved friend and elder. The senior mom•
here of the session anted as pallbearers
at the church, and the junior members
at the grave. The pulpit, organ, cen-
munion roiling and the family pew were
heavily draped with blank. A memorial
service was eonduoted on Sabbath morn•
ing by Rev. Mr. McInnes, who spoke in
words of the highest admiration and most
profound regard of the late Alex, Watt.
He especially emphasized the fact that
he was one who in life and epoch bad
set before his family and fellow merohere
