getting material on the ground for a . new

the dimensions of which are 50x66 ft.,
with stone stabling, Geo. Long has also

Ootwavr —The annual meeting was held
in Atwood on Tuesday, 14th inst. There
was a good turnout of members. John
Dickson was called to the chair. After a
few remarks from the chairman, the
auditot'e report which: showed that the
company had made good progress during
the past year, that it was carrying poll -
Wee amounting to $1,583,505.00 and held
unassessed premium notes to the amount
of $72,480, and that all olaime adjusted,
had been paid, leaving a balance in the
hands of the teeaenter of $200.47, with
$814.55 to collect. After being ably con-
sidered the report was unanimously
adopted: A disauseion arose oh the pro.
ppriebyof paying for animalasupposed to
be damaged by lightning and 11 was the
opinion of the meeting that each should
be paid in the future on, evidence being
produced to the eatiefaotion of the board.
The retiring direotora were Messre. S. S.
Bothwell, S. McAllister, and J. R. Ham-
mond. Jae. bonaldoon and Thoe, Digk:
son were nominated in addition to the
retiring directors, Mr. Dbnaldeon with.

We understand that Wm. Marsden has
purobased a 100 acre farm near Wiarton
and will remove thither next March.
There is only a small' clearance on the
place, so Mr. Marsden will be reminded
of his earlier years in the use of the axe.
John Sharp, of Not;th Branch, Mich.,,
and his son, Archie, of Pontiac, were
visiting relatives and old friends in Grey
and Morris townships, They .left: for
home on Thursday of last week, going by
Milverton and S1. Thomas, where they
also visited.
The annual meeting of the Silver Oor-
nere Oheese. Faotory was held in the
factory on Saturday, Jan. 25th, with a
large attendance of patrons. The Audi
tore' report showed- the following figures
Amount of milk received at Ito:tory,
1,429,204 lbs, ; cheese manufactured,
128,002 lbs.; average lbs. milk to pound
cheese, 11.10 lbs. ; average price for
season, 8.07 oho. ; average coat of mann-
featuring one pound cheese, 1.25 els. ;
average post of manufacturing one pound
cheese, with :milk hauling, 1.68 abs.
total amount of money received for
cheese, $10,841.69. Officers were elected

Onrruenr: A vacant plaoe in the
family oinwle of Geo. Spearin, Blanchard,
hasbeen made by the death on Tuesday,
2let inst., of their youngest daughter,
Suaanna Amanda. The deceased, who
was 15 years and 6 months old, was ap-
parently the healthiest one of the family
and bar amiable disposition and cheerful,
lively nature made her a general favorite
not only in the home but among all her
friends and aoquaintanoee. Her illness
began with a cold, followed by paralysis,
which at first was in both feet and thence
extended gradually upward and in five
days terminated in her death. She was
conscious up to a few minutes of her
death, Mies Spearin was a member of
Zion church choir. Her parents have
the sympathy of many friends in their
sad affiiotion. The funeral' took place on
Thursday of last week. Deceased was a
niece to Hartwell and Luke Spearin, of
Grey township.

lejohn and those assisting him had a very
narrow escape from injury by the buret•

Temperance, which was advertised for
last Fridaynight, was postponed for two
weeks. It will be held in the Township
Hall on Friday evening, Feb. 7th. An
exoellent program of vocal and instru-
mental music, readings, reoitations,
magic lantern views, &a. is being pre.
pared. Some outside talent is being
secured, and the entertainment promises
to be the best of the season. A small
admiseinu fee will be obarged to defray
expenses.
