SERVED Hent Baum—Tuesday ' evening
of this week a very pleasant variety was
added to the natal routine of business at
Camp Ben Lomond, Sons of Scotland,
Brussels, by the presentation of a hand-
some Past Chief's badge to Jno. Shaw,
who is leaving to assume the Principal-
ship of Teeawater Public eohool on Fri-
day. Dr. Graham read the following
address and made the presentation :-
To Johan Shaw :
DEAR SIR arm Beeman,—On learning
you are about leaving Brussels we,
your friends in Camp Ben Lomond Sons
of Scotland, desire to express our regret
at your departure from amongst os, and
although we feel sorry at the prospeot of
your absence, we, at the same time, are
pleased that you have obtained a very de-
sirable position which necessitates your
removal. We trust that your new eor-
roundinge will not interfere with your
fidelity and loyalty to the Sons of Soot -
land, which has hitherto characterized
you, in token of which we desire yon to
accept this Pact Chief's Badge of the
Order. Our best wishes go with you,
and hope they may be realized to your.
self and family in your new home.
J. MOALPINE, Chief ;
A. STRAcnAx, Seoretery.
Brussels, Aug. 20,'95.
A suitable and feeling reply was made
by Mr. Shaw. 'Pact Chief Reid occupied
the chair and made a terse, appropriate
address ; Chief McAlpine sang a good
Scotch Bong, and A. R. Smith gave a
reading in good style. The badge con-
sists of a rampant lion surrounded by
maple leaves and thistles, under which is
the emblem of office on metal attached
to a Stuart tartan- ribbon with gold
fringe. Mr. Shaw is not only an enthus.

BRUaeEL5 RAcCs.--The summer meet-
ing was held on Monday of this week, the
list announced for Tuesday being com-
bined owing to the 2,24 olaes not filling.
The rain of Sunday made the track heavy
but otherwise everything passed off in
good order. There was a large field of
horses and although straight heats ap,
peered to be the order of the day the win-
ners were closely followed. The ball was
set rolling by calling the 2.40 class. Four
home started but "Lady Mitchell" was
distanced in the first heat, leaving the
race to the other three, "Walter Med-
ium,""Selwood" and "Topsy D." Next
came the open event, "Pay Rook," the
bay gelding, of Stratford, was shut out in
the first mile end "Doctor M." took let
money ; 'Belmont Chief," 2nd ; and
"Gold 'Ring," 3rd. In the 2.29 olass
"Tartie" won three straight heats and
"Rumor Jr." of Seaforth, 2nd. "Maggie
Derrooh," of Luoknow, also started but
was flagged in the 3rd heat. Consider.
able amusement was afforded in the half
mile run, largely due to the antics of
"Capt. O'Shea" and bis owner. The
former did not come to be governed either
by starter or jockey and literally ran all
over the track. "Tenny B" from Har-
riston, was distanced, The judges were
Alfred•Roe, Wingbam ; Lack Kennedy,
Clinton ; and Geo. Hsndereon, Seaforth,
The refreshment privilege was in the
hands el James 1ttoAlpine who attended
to his work in good style. Contrary to
expectation the attendance was not large
