The redoubtable "Casey" must have been at the bat when the Belgians lifted the score to 23. At last accounts the Goderich contingent was doing as well as could be expected, and ware in hopes of gathering them. selves together in time to wipe the earth with the Stratford club before coming home. They must do something or we can't meet them with a brass band. AN IAtronraaTYisrT.—It is a well-known fact that many cases of hernia—rupture in children have been cured by Dr. J. Y. Egan, the Rupture specialist, of Toronto, which others could not relieve temporar- ily even by retention of the parts. Best was called away to ber long home on Friday fore- noon of last aeek. As mentioned in last week's POST She had taken a bad turn on Thursday and was not expected to live through the day but toward evening ebe improved somewhat and faint hopes were entertained of her recovery. She passed away quietly, peaoefally and quite unex- pectedly. Deceased was the eldest daugh- ter of John Best and was born at Oliver's Ferry, Rideau Canal, near Perth. About 16 yearn of her life was spent in the home of her aunt, Mrs. George Cardiff, where she died. She was 27 years, 1 month and 19 daye old. Mies Best had a large circle of friends and was always a welcome member of any company. Her early de- mise is sincerely regretted by many relatives and friends as she was an exceptionally estimable person. The fun- eral took place last Sabbath afternoon, the procession beiug one of the longest known in this section of country, 145 oonveyanoes containing 347 people being counted ae the cortege proceeded to Brus- sels cemetery. Rev. R. Peal conducted the service, delivering a very suitable address at the house on Life, Death and the Judgment. The bereaved have the sympathy of the community at large in their loss. A peculiar ooinoidenoe con- cerning the illness of Miss Beat is that her cousin, Mise Addie Crisp, who was visiting with ber among friends in Mc. Killop, ie also very ill with the game trouble at her home at Londesboro', but is improving now. "IT WAS A FAMOUS VloronuE."—Palmer• stun Base Ball team started out on a "tower" last Monday, arriving in Brus. eels on the afternoon train. Shortly after 4 o'clock Ab.Panlin, the well-known let baseman of Wroxeter, called the game and umpired it throughout with satisfaction to all concerned. The visit. ore went to bat first and pounded the at- mosphere, and owing to their inability to locate Jack Grower's curves it was a rare thing to get started to first base, and after the start some naughty fielder venally had the ball to D. C. Ross at that bag before their arrival. Not one Pal- merston player orossed the home plate through the 8 innings —only that number was played. The fielders had very little to do, but were generally on band to look after all that came their way. Bruseels found Hamilton, the Palmerston pitcher, from the start and piled up ran after run, until they tallied 19 in their 7511 innings. They were blanked once, viz. in the 5511. A. Boyd, of Harrieton, was the catcher for the Easterners. The Palmerston boys weren't in it at all and were played round at every point of the game. They returned home by the evening train. Jno. Grower and Robb. Ross did good work as battery for Brussels, and had a great deg to do with the result of the match, as Grewar struck 12 men out. Jae. T. Ross heads the more with 4 rune and no outs. There was a good at- tendance of speotatore, 913.00 being tak- en at the gate, ladies free, and the didn't. pays outside of the fence. Here is the snore :— 0Rb.aELs B. 0. 0ALtt0 95TON.
