No director or stockholder of any rail.. road or other corporation asking for or obtaining any emolument front the Gov- ernment shall be eligible for election to the House of Commons ; and if such conditions obeli occur in the .case of a member already elected, his seat shall be declared vacant. It shall be declared a breach of the Ie - dependence of Parliament Aot for any member of the House of Commons to accept fees or emoluments other than bis yearly salary or sessional indemnity for any eervioe performed for or on behalf of the Government. No member of the House of Commons stall receive a free pass from any rail- road or steamship company ; and the seat of any member ao reoeiving a free pass shall, on proof thereof, be immedi. ately be deolared vacant, and the person so offending shall be disqualified for membership in the House of Commons or for any position in the gift of the Gov. ernment for a space of 5 years. RIGID ECONODIS. The Government 'House at Ottawa shall be abolished: and the bar -room in conneotion with the House of Commons and Senate Cbamber eballalso be abolish- ed. The system of superannuation, grati- fies and pensions, except for military service, shall be abolished. The Mounted Police of the Northwest Territories shall be abolished, except in unorganized districts, In which case the expenditure shall not exceed $200,000. The Military College at Kingston shall ba abolished, and the expenditure on the militia forces of the Dominion in times of peace shall be limited to $300,0110. The granting of subsidies and bonuses to railroad and steamship companies and other corporations shall be abolished. The number of civil servants at Ottawa and their salaries shall be reduced. The High. Commissioner in Great Britain shall have a stated salary with. out any addition for assistants or perqu- isites. REDUCTION OF TILE IIACIIIOERT. The number of Cabinet Ministers shall be reduced, and the Canadian Senate shall be abolished. TARIFF AND REVENUE. Luxuries shall be taxed to the fullest revenue producing extent, and the fol- lowing shall be admitted free into Can- ada, viz.:—Oottone, tweeds, woollens, workmen's tools, farm implements, fence wire, binder twine, coal oil, iron and COED. He took up the farm now owned by Hugh Forsyth, nth line, and was one of the first settlers. Deceased removed to the States 28 years ago. Mrs. McCracken died in 1877. OBIT. -0n Tuesday night of last week, ex -Councillor Jas. Proctor, one of the best known and moat highly esteemed residents of the township, passed away after au ill. nese of less than a week's duration. For some time he had nob beau well, but of late he had greatly improved in health, and the Thursday before his death he was planting corn, and it is supposed he over- heated himself. He was taken seriously ill that evening, and though all that •medical okilr and oareful nursing could do was done, he died as stated. The de- ceased was the eldest son of Chas. Proct- or, and held a position in the Morrie gonncbl for a number of years. He was in his 43rd year and leaves a wife and three children as well as his aged father and mother and several brothers to mourn thsir logs. Mees HALLIDAY, Teacher. • Robert Howie, of Colchester, sold 2,000 bushels of wheat at $1.05 this week at Kingsville. Mr. Howie has held a large portion of this wheat in his barns for over two years. The salmon run in the Fraser and Col- umbia rivers bhie season has been excellent and it declared by some of the oldest fiebermen on the river's that tbe quality of the fish was never so fine. The weight of the salmon is increasing yearly, and this year averages fully twenty eight pounds per salmon. Buyers and dia. bributers say that a large proportion of the public of this continent have only recently begun to be consumers of can- ned salmon, a result asoribod to the re- cent innovation of packing perfect stealre of the fish in oval cans.
