S. Dickson, postmaster, purposes mak-
ing several;, improvements in the post
ofee here. The cellar will be deepened
and a furnace put in ; the waiting room
will be enlarged a stamp counter es-
tablished, as well as other internal im-
provements.
E. T. Kellam has just passed a most
creditable examination before the Ontario
Connell of Physicians and Surgeons, and
is now eligible tohangout his shingle
and practice his profession. ler. Kellam
bas not yet decided where he will locate,
but is sere to succeed wherever be goes.
Between thirty and forty of the officers
and teachers of the Methodist Sunday
school surprised W. M. Gray, and pre-
sented him with an address and teacher's
bible on bin retiring from the Superin-
tendeooy of the school, which he has held
for 14yeare. W. D. Bright and Mr. Gray
change pluses in the work of this enocees-
fel echool.

pupils houses to give music lessons this
summer. Formerly those desiring les-
sons in musio bad to go to Walton from
around here.
Finlay Molntosh raised his barn on
Thursday last. The affair was a big one
all around. Inthe evening over 200
young people gathered and spent the
night dancing. Splendid music was in

While a couple of young men from the
12th con were walking along the road one
night last week they were stopped by
some men in disguise and ordered to hold
up their hands under cover of two revol-
ver& Their pockets were then searched
and a watch and two knives taken. This
is certainly somewhat stations but a per-
son living in these quiet parts would nat-
urally think it was a trick, and that if one
of the highway men had got a swift plug
in the eye both would have got off in a
hurry.
Some time ago a few boys on the East
end of the 1211 con. purchased a foot ball
to quietly pees away a few of the long
summer evenings, but of late it hae creat.
ed quite an interest. The shareholders
have increased three fold. Prentice is
held three times a week regularly, and
the young girls also gather to see their
brave fellows contest the field with such
intrepedity. When going home time
come it is funny to aft some of the pairs

home trip. The Met account is that the

ed for the team is 'The Rustics." Should
matchas be arranged with any of the
neighboring teams they want to look

Queen's birthday with relatives at Grand
Bend, on the banks of Lake Huron.
Ed. Collis had a barn raising on Tues-
day of last week. There were about 80
present. The building is 40x50 feat, on
stone foundation 8 feet high, McLeod
Bros„ of Gray, have the °entreat of the
frame work, and Geo. elantilton, of le [ma,

The Charles Stevenson show in the
Town Hall Wednesday night of last week
did not materialize for want of an audi•

of the Presbyterian church on Monday to
vote on the question of ksepfng the pastor.

Five delegates were appointed to meet
the Presbytery in. Stratford on Tuesday.

Darted some time ago, was shown us by
Hush Richmond, of con, 12, Elmo.. It
is a kitten, with one bend, four ears (two
in the proper place, and two on the top of
its head) eight legs, part of two bodies
joined at the breast, and two tails. The
monstrosity is dead and was evidently
still born.
We very mnoh regret to have to report
the death on Tuesday of last week at 9 a.
m. of Jas. Wilson, who bas been lying
seriously 111 for about three weeks with
im8ammation of the lungs. Being an
elderly man and having, been mach ex-
posed the deceased was tumble to battle
against the disease. The family have
the sympathy of the entire community
in their sad afdictiou.

Fred. Collins, of Atwood, was struck
across the mouth by a cane in the bandit
of George Ford in Listowel, on Queen's
birthday, for some petty offence, and
Fred. entered an aatiod against him.

'Bethune, and Ford was fined et25, includ-
ing ousts. It appears Ford does duty ne
policemen in Listowel on big days such
as the 24th of May, etc„ and undertook
to usurp hie authority in the manner re.

May, the infant; daughter of James and
Mary Spoir died, aged 25 days. She had
not been strong from her birth and the
death was not anexpeoted. The funeral
