Popper, had the pleasure of winning a prize offered by the Hance Bros„ whole- sale druggists, of Philadelphia, for the "best dressed window advertising their Frog in the Throat." The display took plane in January,the window -being. photographed and sent to Philadelphia where they were judged by an expert window dresser. Several hundred drug- gists all over America competed, but Mr. Pepper was the only Canadian to oapture a prize. Thompson. A discussion ensued as to payment of members and also in reference to the Fire Engine. It was decided to have a deputation wait on the Council, notifying them of the condition of the Fire Engine boiler, which will, in all probability, have to be renewed. OBITUARY, -Friday of last week Addie, beloved wife of George Sanders, Flint, Michigan, was galled away from earth after a brief illness. She had given birth to a babe the Sabbath previous and short- ly after fever set ie, resulting in her death. Deceased was the eldest daughter of Hugh Williams, Brussels, and was born in Elora, Ontario, on March 22nd, 1858. She was united in marriage to her now bereft husband, who was a former resident of this place, about 13 or 14 years ago, end they have made their home in Flint singe, Mr. Sanders holding a luerative position on the Grand Trunk railway. Mrs. Sanders was never very ragged, but no one expected to bear of her demise. The funeral on Sabbath was very largely attended and an impres- sive service was conducted by the Metho- dist minister. The subject of this notice was beloved by a large circle of friends. Her death was another triumph added to the Christian faith. Mr. Sanders, Mr. and Mrs. Williams and family are deeply sympathized with in their bereavement. The differenoe in salaries in 1883 and 1894 is 9850. This would be the an- nual payment that would have to he made for 20 years [_id, 4% if a tonal building costing 96,960 were built, so that the school tax would bo no higher than in 1883 for the payment of teachers' eateries alone. There were 88 carloads of stuff on the market, which included 125 sheep and lambs, 459 bogs, and about 200 calves. The butchers' cattle sales were made much Blower than was the case last Fri. day. Baying for Montreal was only active, there being twelve carloads taken for there. Ono carload was taken for Dundas and another for Hamilton. Prices were not so high as they were on Friday last. Common to good cattle sold for from 2ac to 3, o per pound, and choice to fanny 37}0 to 4o per pound. Not very many goody cattle offered and the demand was fair. About 30 or 40 head were tak- en by the dealers at prices varying at from 3o to Se per pound, according to quality. Good fat steers would bring from. 4}o to 5c per pound, and bulls at 3o to 4c per poimd. In stookere and feeders there was merely a nominal trade done, but e, few feeders are wanted at from 290 to 3c per pound. In hogs, there was a slightly firmer tone in this line. As high as 5o pep pound, weighed off the oars,' was paid for some choice long bacon hogs, the range for these being mostly from $4,80 to 95 per cwt. In yearlings -Firm- er to -day, selling at from $5.25 to $5.40 per cwt. Offerings were light and all soon sold. Good grain fed yearlings are wanted. Ordinary sheep fetch front 490 to. 6c per poimd. There were a fete spring lambs on the market to -day : six head sold for $2 each and twosold for $2 per head. In calves -Offerings were heavy neatly 200 head. All the good ones sold readily enough. but the boor and common ones were hard to dispose of. Rye -Car lots West wanted at 48c. John Swan & Sons, ltd., Edinburgh, in their weekly report of March 2000, say ; -There have been generally fewer sup- plies of fat cattle all over. There was more demand from the south, and trade was steady at last week's prices, and an easy clearance effected. There have been about 800 States cattle on offer which are reported to have met a fair trade. There have been rather more fah sheep shown. Trade was steady, and prices as nearly as possible similar to last week. fat lambs in small numbers, best making up to 40e. Calves were a fair show and they continue to sell dear. Piga continuo to make very low prices. For good de- scriptions of store sheep and cattle a good demand is experienced. Milk cows are in large numbere, and they have mode rather less money.
