Tonoaro, Ont., April 2.—In some linea
there was a firmer feeling today, chiefly
paused by the approach of Easter.
There was quite a number of buyers on
the market from outside pointe, and buy-
ing for Montreal and Ottawa was pretty
brisk for Easter trade. Offerings of stuff
were 39 carloads, whioh included 58
Iambs and sheep and 501 hogs. For or-
dinary butcher's cattle there was only
a quiet market. Although about 10 car-
loads of cattle were taken for Montreal
and four loads for Ottawa; some ordinary
butchers' cattle were left on the market.
The prices pard today for cattle were
from 210 per pound for common butchers'
stuff up to no per pound for choice
butehere' cattle. Butchers' Easter cattle
Bold at from 690 to 490 per pound, one
lot of exceptionally choice steers and
heifers fetohing as high as 50 per pound.
In export cattle, there was some buying
in this line today, but the market is
purely nominal. One or two choice
steers brought 46 per pound, but most of
the sales were made in the vicinity of
3il:.a per pound for bulls, and up to 45 per
pound for good oattie fat enough for ex.
port. In stookere and feeders there was
ogly slow buying, buyers being not able
to gat cattle to snit them. Prices are
nominal, at from 260 to 8o per pound, ao.
cording to quality. Of oows and spring-
ers, there were about fifteen head in, and
all eventually sold, but poor prices were
paid in nearly every instance, the top
figure being 985: In sheep and iambs of-
ferings were very light, and the result
was that lambs were firmer, making an
advance of about lo per pound. Sheep
wore quiet, There was no buying for ex.
port. Butohers were buying a few sheep
at from 290 to 9;4o per pound, or about
94 to $5 per bead according to quality.
There was another decided advance in
hogs. One oar load of choice long, lean
hogs was reported sold at 5o per pound,
and 56o bas been paid in the country for
hogs to be delivered next Jane, Several
sales were made et $4.90 par cwt., weigh.
ed off the can. For the best long, lean
bacon hogs today the general range was
from 94,75 to 94,80 per cwt,, an advance
of about 5o. per cwt. from last Friday's
prices.
