Rod. diok's wall paper store was speedily put out on Wednesday morning before very much damage was done. The cause of the fire was a defective chimney and as the trouble was between the ceiling of the upstairs and roof, the destroying element bad been burning for some time before it was diecovered. The fire engine was taken to. the river but although its cervi - 0813 were not required the machine was run for half an hour to see what condi- tion i6 was fn. Tan W'rcEN'9 GLomE.—Oanadian women are already noted for many graces of person, character and heart, and now they propose showing that they also pos- sess mental powers of a high order, oom- bined with business qualities. They have undertaken to assume charge of an entire issue of the Toronto Daily Globe (for April 18th, next). The regular edi- torial and reportorial staffs, certainly all the male members thereof, will be dis- placed for that issue by a staff of ladies who will cover every department of the paper—business, editorial, local and general. The issue will be a very large one, both as to the number of pages and as to circulation and will also bo non- politioal and non-sectarian. The result 019111s unique undertaking will, we are sure, be watched with keenest interest not only by the fair sex of the Dominion but also by the, on this occasion, more curious male element. Twelve tenders for the building of the bank barn were opened, ranging, from 51,330 to 5821, A. MoBath, of Stanley, was awarded the contract at the last mentioned figure. The barn will be 36x50 feet and is to be sided with dressed pine and painted. The Committee visit. ed the Industrial Farm and selected the site for barn. Next Sabbath morning Mr, Jennings, of Blnevale, will preach in the Methodist church and. Rev. J. W. Pring, of the same plane in the evening. The pastor will be at Bluevale. Last Tuesday the Exeoutive of Huron County Sabbath School Association met at Clinton. The object was to arrange for the formation of local Conventions in the County. Methodist Sabbath school Anniversary sermons on Easter Sunday and on Mon. day evening a public entettainment will be held in the Town Hall. Sutherland, formerly pastor of Ratbenbury St. Metbo''diet church, Clinton, died at his residence in Toronto, on Tueeday of last week, in his 56th year. About a; year and a half ago Dr. Suther- land oontraoted a slight 1110885 which de• veloped into a fever. Since then he has been troubled with a continual series of fevers, which gradually kept pulling down his constitution, Tbe end was a most peaceful one. A widow, three daughters and one son are left to mourn his loss. Dr. Sutherland was regarded a8 one of the wisest and most able ministers of the Methodist ohuroh. Deceased was born in Hamilton in 1839,' and was a eon of. the late Capt. Sutherland, who was killed in the Deejardins Donal accident just thirty- eight years ago on Tuesday of lad week. 151. Sutherland entered the Victoria Col- lege in 1855, and graduated four years later. He next studied law, and entered into partnership with Mr. Lazier, of Hamilton, until 1864, when he became a Methodist minister, and' has coubiuued in that capacity ever since. Business Locals.
