He took as his morning text, Pe. 90:12, and enjoined 'upon his hearers the duty of retrospeoting' ' in respect to business matters, to home life and to the oongrdyga. tion.., Comparing the statue of the con, gregabiop with, the previous year, be showed steady numerical progress: had been made, 18 new members having been added, leaving the number of members on the: church roll ab present, 186.' The finances of the congregation are upon a g p solid footing and ohuroh attendance on the whole had been very good, many of the members showing loyalty to the cause of Christ and to the congregation. He emphasised the necessity of introspection in order to satisfaotory retrospection. In the evening he took bis text from 2.0or. 13:14 and dealt with the.Apostolio bene• diction as a fitting topic with whioh to close the last Sabbath of the year. nnvsezcs, H, Kerr and Jas. Irwin. BINOLAIR, . sohool Board Matters: — To the Editor of Poo. - Brp,'In this week's igguo of the Herald there appears a fetter giving a few a0• called "facts" to the electors, under the coward- cognomen of "Ratepayer., er.' If,'Bruesele as " he a says, they are "facts why does he to bice hie identity ? Why aces he yQommunion not let it be known to the Public who it is that is malting these charges against the members of the Board who retain their seats for another year,? Simply because his so-called facts are only half the truth, and he imagines he can cover up some of his own ebortominge. His first charge is "the persietant effort of two of the members of the Board toope0 the f fth roomy as he says, without one the assertion n over-crowded." that the sl school that the school is over-arowaed." Now. he knows he is making a false statement in saying that, for as a matter of fact during the early part of the year the school was so. overcrowded that the teachers aid not know what to do with the hers ne and complained to the Board • and the Property. Committee had to do all- kinds of scheming toprovide seats for all and at this same time the Inspector reported to the Board that something must be done t0 relieve the over -crow rooms and advised the opening of the fifth room," and on hie advice, and our own knowledge that the rooms were over- crowded we reluctantly:moved that the fifth rodm should be opened. This would not suit the purpose of this "poor heavily burdened Ratepayer," whose only interest in the school ,s the amount of taxes he pays—so the best interests of the school had to be sacrificed. He claims that one of the means of relieving the school is to "discharge the foreign' pupils." I would like to know how that reheves any of the roome except the, Principals ? His next great remedy 35 to dispense with , optional subjects. • In other words as soon as the scholarhas Passed his entrance examination he is to be compelled to go to the High school to obtain his .certificate. Now, Sir, how many of the residents of the village could afford to send their children away to High school ? I am afraid not yell' many. My reading of the Ontario Edu- rational Aot iS that It 3s intended to give the very poorest child in the community a chance to reach the very top of the ladder, if it bas the ability, but our poor over burdened "Ratepayer" doesn't bake that view, he would practically condemn all poor children to remain poor to the end of the Chapter. He evidently does not relish the idea of "these common folks" getting on a footing with the "aristocracy." As to his personal at- tack on Dr.-*Mclielvey and Mr- Smith I leave it to the judgment of the citizens au to his good taste and I have no doubt g thesis gentlemen'are quite capable of tak. ing care of themselves.
