JES' 'FOR18 CHRISTMAS.
Father calls me William, sister calls me
Will,
Mother calls mo Willie—but the fellers
call me Bill I
Mighty glad I ain't a girl—ruther he that's
Without them sashes, curls an' things a
boy worn by Fauntleroy 1'
Love to chow green apples an' go swim -
min' in the lake—
Hate to take the castor ile they give f'r
belly -ache I
Most all the time thehull year mon' there
ain't no flies on me,
But jes''fore Christmas I'm as good as I
kin be I
Got a yeller dog named Sport—sink 'im
on the oat ;
Fust thing she knows she doesn't know
what she is at !
Got a clipper -sled, and when us boys goes
out to slide
'Long comes the grocery cart an' we all
hooka ride I
But, sometimes, when the grocery mac ie
worritted and cross,
He reaches at me with his whip, and lar -
rope up his hose ;
An' then I laff an.holler : Oh, yon never
tecbed me I
But jee' 'fore Christmas I'm as good as I
kin be I
Gran'ma says she hopes that when I git
to beaman
I'll be a missioner like her oldee' brother
Dan,
As was et up by the oaonib'le that lives
in Ceylon's isle,
Where every proepeok pleases an' only
man is vile I
But Gran'ma she had never been to see a
Wild West Show,
Or read the life uv Daniel Boone, or else
I guess she'd know
That Buffalo Bill an_oowboys is good en-
ough f'r me-
Exoep' jee' fore Christmas, when I'm
good as I kin be I
Then of Sport he hangs around, so solemn
like an' still—
His eyes they seem a-sayin' : What's er
matter, little Bill ?
The cat she sneaks down off her perch,
a-wonderin' what's become
0v them two enemies of kern that used
to make thinge hum I
But I am so perlits an' stick so earnest -
like to biz,
That mother says to father How im-
proved our Willie le 1
But, father, havin' been a boy hieself sue•
piaisns me,
When jos''fore Christmas I'm as good as
I kiu be.
For,Christmas, with its lots an lobs uv
candies, cakes an toys,
Wuz made, they say, f'r proper kids, and
not f'r naughty boys I
So wash yet faoe, and breeh yer hair, an
mind yer pie an q's,
And don't bust out yer pantaloons, an
don't wear out yer ehoee
Say yessum to the ladies, and yeeeir to
the men,
An when they's company don't pass yer
plate f'r pie again ;
Bub thinkin uv the things you'd like to
see upon that tree,
Jee''foreChristmas bee at good as you
kin be; l

Muoh doing is not so important aejwpll
doing.
The furnace and •tllo gold are gold
friends,
The sin we opars le Sure 'Id become:931r
mnoter,
The oloset of prayer ought to be ca
peted with praise,
It never beoomos entirely dark to those
W ho look up.
The religion that posts nothing ie worth
just that muoh.
The man who does not look ahead soon
bas to fall ba"ok.
The first thing mau needed in this
world was Ohriet.
Nothing but aonatant trust in God can
give us perfect rest,
The devil is generally oloee by when,
the preacher trades horses.
Ib is not the last drink that makes the
drunkard, but the first.
The important thing ie not how long
we are going to live, but how.
When you go to ohnroh to pray for a
revival, don't do it on a back seat.
The devil's principal work is to make
wrong people think they are right.
God never sends danger to any man to
whom he has not first given courage,
The religion of some people makes you
wonder if they were baptized in toe
water.
When starting for Zion don't stop to
take a parting drink, or you may lose
your ticket.
When you want a fresh blessing, get on.
your knees and thank God for the last
one.
If some people couldn't find anything
to hide behind, they would be alwbye on
the run.
There are only a few hypocrites in the
oborah compared to the number outside
of it.
The devil is willing to stand by the
preaoher when he can take a hand in lbs
mueio.
If the churches were kept open as much
as the saloons, the devil would soon be
onthe run.
The devil likes to seethe man join the
ohnroh wbo expects to do all his work
with hie mouth,
There is no wisdom inhaving a man to
watoh a bank who believes that stealing
chickens is right.
Turn the devil out of church at one
door, and he will put on a different coat
and go in at another.
The Christian should never go where
it would throw a damper over thinge to
mention the name of Christ.
It is a great deal easier for some peo-
ple to pray for the preacher than it is to
do their part toward his support.
The devil is not wasting any ammuni•
tion on the man who is stepping over
little duties looking for something big to
do for Christ.
The man who thinks the world owes
him a living finds it hard now-a•daye to
collect the debt.
An infidel is a man who builds a house
without windows, and then blames God
because be has to live in the dark.
