The late Mr. Williamson was the own-
er of a stove, a sight of wit idh would de-
light the heart of the lover of antiquarian
relics. It was manufactured in Dundee,
Scotland, 80 years ago, and was for a
number of years used in a church in An.

Albert Milleon, who has been making
cheese in the Gerrie faotory for the past
three seasons, has been engaged as maker
in the Springbank factory for next year.
At a resent meeting of the directors
of the Mechanics' Institute it was de-
cided to pay off the 650 borrowed at the
abarting of the Institute and to add an-
other 626 worth of books to the library.

present, some of the boys catching all

Wm. Elliott, of Goderich township,
Porter's Hill, was then winner of the
medal presented by Mayor Hamilton, of
Cornwall, to the farmet from Goderlbb,
Colborne or Ashfield townships who
should take the latent number of prizes
at the Northwestern Exhibition. Mr,
Elliott had 20 firsts and 0 eeoonds to his
credit.
A letter has been received by Wm. Lee
from Parser Young, of the steamer
United Empire, stating that a young
man named Abram Stauffer, employed
on the boat, was drowned off the dock at
'Duluth on Sunday night. He was ashore
taking the lines, and walked off the end
of the dock with a lantern in his hand
and never rose again. It was intended
to drag for the body next morning, but
meanwhile Mr. Young wrote to GodeOioh
and wired to Sarnia to find out the young

genuine gray squirrel ever seen in this
vicinity was shot by W. Foster. It is
as large as a good-sized kitten, with a
tail nearly a foot long and several inches
broad.
The Public School Trustees have re-
engaged all the present staff for the en-
suing year, and in so doing have shown
their appreciation of the faithful services
of the leaohers. ,Mr. Lough was offered
an increase to hie salary but declined it
owing to the stringency of the times, and
the diffidulties with which school monies
are, raised.

anticipated, and realizing the impossibili-
ty of performing it to the .satisfaction of
the public and the department without
expert assistance, bas secured for a year
the services of W. D. Fair and his sister.
Mr. Pair, we understand, is to have full
control of the office, but, of course, under

An event which has for some time
been anticipated, took plaoe at the home
of A. MaMurobie, Reeve, on Wednesday
of last week, it being the marriage of his
eldest daughter, Agnes, to Dr. Robert
Agnew, of town. Only the immediate
friends were present, and the services of
bridesmaid and groomsman were dispens-
ed with. Rev. Stewart performed the
ceremony. Dr. Agnew and wife are
well known here, and both enjoy the
esteem of all. Quite a crowd gathered
at the station in the afternoon to see
them off on their wedding tour.
While R. VanEgmond, of the Huron
road, was at work, be was more than
surprised to sae a large wild oat deliber-
ately walk aoross an open field a few
rode away from him. Not having a rifle,
he drove to town and informed some of
the local nimrods, bot they laughed at
biro, and thought he had mistaken a dog
for a wildcat. However Ben. Tomlin•
eon, who is a crook shot, was only too
glad of a chance to try his skill, and he
went out with Mr. Vanllgmond, and was
rewarded by a sight of the animal,
which he brought down with the first
shot. It was a fine specimen and would
weigh in the neighborhood of 50 lbs.

The house and furniture of Benjamin
Westwood, Toronto, father of youug
Westwood, who was so mysteriously as•
saseivated a few weeks ago, were sold by
auction last week, the family being anxi-
ous to move away from the scene of the
murder. An enormous crowd was on the
premises. The bouse is one of the largest

Looking at them closely it is not hard to be-
lieve that some of them might have been made by
ants, so very small their step and so crooked their
way ; excitable little creatures that with all their
flurry never seem to get anywhere in particular,
and whose whole interest seems to be that of turn-
ing aside from obstacles. Others again, in the
great length of their stride, remind one of the
mighty jump of the kangaroo. They are evidently
getting somewhere, and on reflection it occurs to
the observer that these must be the tracks of those
shrewd merchants who 'got there' by jumping from
