The perch are biting pretty good at present, some of the boys catching all they oan carry. In these days a rod 'equals a good many perch. Wm. Elliott, of Goderich township, Porter's Hill, was then winner of the medal presented by Mayor Hamilton, of Cornwall, to the farmet from Goderlbb, Colborne or Ashfield townships who should take the latent number of prizes at the Northwestern Exhibition. Lee from Parser Young, of the steamer United Empire, stating that a young man named Abram Stauffer, employed on the boat, was drowned off the dock at 'Duluth on Sunday night. He was ashore taking the lines, and walked off the end of the dock with a lantern in his hand and never rose again. Dr. Agnew and wife are well known here, and both enjoy the esteem of all. Quite a crowd gathered at the station in the afternoon to see them off on their wedding tour. While R. Looking at them closely it is not hard to be- lieve that some of them might have been made by ants, so very small their step and so crooked their way ; excitable little creatures that with all their flurry never seem to get anywhere in particular, and whose whole interest seems to be that of turn- ing aside from obstacles.
