FLU ENGINE TEST. -The Toronto Em. pire of lash Wednesday says of the Ronald fire engine :-The new Ronald steam fire engine, manufactured in Brussels, Ont., was praotically tested before many epee. tabors on the Esplanade, near theYoonge street dook, yesterday afternoon. Fire Chief Ardagh, Assistant chief Graham and Mr. McLean, secretary of the Fire Underwriter's Association, with a large number of insurance men, and several noted engineers were interested spectators of the test. With cold water in the boiler 26 pounds of steam was raised in the short time of five miuutea. In a little over six minutes 85 pounds was indicat- ed and the engine started pumping. The first test was with a one and a half inch nozzle and 200 feet of hose. To the astonishment of the spectators an almost horizontal stream of water was thrown 820 feet, and this was kept up for a con. siderable time, imparting a water pre5. sure of 180 pounds on the hose and using an average of 00 pounds of. steam. This stream was kept up steadily and without any forcing or spurting customary with the old style of fire engines. The nozzle was then elevated and a stream estimated to be about 200 feet high, or about two. thirds of the distance of the horizontal stream, was thrown. The next test was with two separate streams, with one and a quarter inch nozzles. This test was equally as satisfactory as the first, the streams being thrown about the gams die- tante. The engine was then taken to a hydrant in the rear of the oustom house, With obout 70 pounds of steam 180 pounds water pressure was imparted on two lines of hose with one and a quarter inch nozzles, The streams were thrown far above the highest buildings in the vicinity. The power of this remarkable engine was a surprise to many of the vet. area firemen who viewed its working, The engine whioh weighs 0,800 .poande, without water or ooal, is of the latest modern construction and was a 8010113' built for this city. It was awarded the first prize and gold medal at the World's Fair. The boiler contains 885 seamless submerged copper Oboe, which nudism it preetleally indeetreobible, The makers claim that there le no engine in the world ire superior, • li>, sa.r.ess Locals, A view 00Ogaet seta left at Tani Pew Bomkttore, A 80008 cheap banging Imp, pew goods, ta G t. el B , Poox etev8ea Prom 972,00 and upwards at B.
