his commission as Dietriot Deputy Grand
Master for Wingham District No. 23,

in Wingham, Brussels, Teeswater, Wrox-
eber and Gorrie.
The Wingham Turf Club havecanvass-
edthe town pretty thoroughly for sub-
sriptione to aseiet thorn in making a
traok on the new grounds. They have
beau quite s000essful, we understand, get-
ting about $300.
A. Briebois, of this town, repairer for
the Great Northwestern Telegraph Co.,
for this eeotion, has recently received a
new "jigger" of improved make, with
whioh he can make his short trips very
easily on the railway lines.
Wm. Dore has settled with the fester -
acme companies, andis now arranging to
rebuild. He will erect a brick shop, 60
by 24 feet, two stories high, at the rear
of the frame building which was partial-
ly burned, for a blacksmith, woodwork-
ing, paintand trimming shop and fix up
the frame building for a show and stor•
age room.

John Sangster purchased a new bicycle
at Toronto Exhibition and will soon be a
competent rider.
Mrs, Jas. Terry left on Monday to visit
friends and enjoy the sights of the Lon-
don Exhibition.
Geo. Markle left last Monday for his
home. The factory is still turning out
22 cheese per day.
Nearly all our Toronto sight -seers have
returned home and report having had a
very profitable time.
The present scheme for securing a
shopping mill is likely to fall through for
the lank of aeouritiee to the bonus of 9600
asked. A mill of this kind is needed
among the farmers here, however.
A very affecting ieave.taking was wit-
nessed in our village this week. Judging
by the wails of sorrow some poor being's
heart was well-nigh broken, but all things
are not what they seem.

Rev, D. B, McRae occupied the pulpit
in the Methodist ohurob last Sabbath
evening, the pastor being in London.
While on his way to Muskoka last Sat-
urday morning Amos Gill felloff the
train and was seriously injured about the
head. He was in company with J. Siena -
on, and the oars being full they sat on
the platform. Near Newmarket, as the
train was running about 40 milee an
hour, Gill in some way lost his balanoe
and fell. When picked up hewas 'mien -
sib's) and remained so for six or seven
hours. He was brought home by Siemon
on Saturday night and at latest accounts
was slowly improving.

er young townsman, Louie Zerao, has
taken unto himself a wife—a wealthy
young lady of Humboldt, Iowa, where
Mr. Zaran is practising dsntietry.
Win. Ward has disposed of his 100 acre
farm and etoclt on the 6th oon., Elma, to
Alex. Middleton, jr., of Atwood, for the
sum of $6,200. It is a good plane. Mr.
Ward talks of spending the remainder of
hie days in Atwood in quietness and
peace.

Louis Huller, of Grey township. The
ceremony was performed at the residence
of the groom, by Rev. J. F. Parke, reotor
of Listowel. It was done up quietly but
securely, and many were the congratula-
tions showered upon the young couple as
they took the morning train for Toronto,
where they will visit the big Industrial
Fair and other sights of interest in the
Queen pity before returning. The bride,
was dressed in a very pretty and beuom.

043M—Euphemia, beloved wife of
Archie Lamont, con. '7, paid Nature's
debt early last Saturday morning and
entered into the haven of rest. The de-
ceased was born in Argyleehire, Scotland,
and eine to Canada in 1849, locating in
the Townehip of Pickering. In 1866 she
came to this township and twenty.ilve
years ago last Harrah was united to her now
bereft partner. Mre. Lamont had been
poorly for the past three years suffering
from heart failure but previous to this
had enjoyed excellent health. She a
held in high esteem by all who knew her
and was over ready to lend a helping
hand to any who needed it. The subject
of this notice was a worthy member of
Knox church, Brussels, by whoee pastor
she wan buried on Sabbath afternoon.
Mr. Lamont and six children are left to
hold in scored remembrance the life of a
true wife and affectionate mother. The
deceased was 64 years of age,

Owing to the recent burning of Allan
Speir'e barn by lightning and the con-
suming of moon of his feed, he intends
holding an anotion sale of stook on
Thursday afternoon of next week, 27th
inst. He will sell horses, cattle, sheep
and pigs.
AOCIDinNT.—Last Friday evening as
Robert Skelton was puttingupsome poles
in a mow in his barn, 8th line, he fell to
the floor in some way and received a bad.

married and has been living alone, benne
no person knew of the accident until
Saturday afternoon, when he was found
in e. semi-uuconsoious condition. A
physioian was speedily sent for and it is
hoped that he will soon be able to get
about again. Conouesion of the brain is

GARDEN Paoox.—A very pleasant and
successful garden party was held at the

Wilkinson, 4th line, on Friday evening
last. Well ladened supper tables were
set on the green and ample justice was
done to the excellent spread prepared by
the ladies. A musical and literary pro•

WEDDING.—At the family residence, on
Tuesday morning of last week, the Rev.
J. A. Morison, B. A., of the Oak street
Presbyterian church, Toronto, was mar-
ried to Clara, second daughter of the late
Dr. Niobol. The ceremony took plane at
half•past six, in time for the early train
for Montreal, and was performed by the
Rev. Mr. Lindsay, who has been supply-
ing at Knox church here. It was a very
quiet wedding, only the immediate rela-
tives of the bride and groom being
present and the usual assistance of brides-
maids and groomsmen being dispensed
with. The numerous friends of thebride
gave evidence of their regard in the' Form
