Fool Bars—The Listowel Standard
is very eparee in ite praise of the Brue-
eels £ootbellere. Here is what it says :—
"An exciting game of foot ball took place
on the rink park Wedneeday evening, be.
tweet' the lviarllboros and the Brussels
football Dinh. The ball was stetted rolling
at 7 o'clock, when after a quiok play for
about fifteen minutes the visiting
team eoorerl a goal, by an off.
side play. They having their own ref-
eree, he could not see the off play and
therefore allowed the gond. Thiugs went
along very smoothly until the last 25
mina tat when the home team allowed some
excellent playing by continually shooting
on their opponent'e goal. The Brussels
team atter ecoring one p' tyed a defence
game, by all falling into ''tem own goal.
By this reanoeuver our b ys were preven-
ted from sooring, which gave the match
to Bruseele by 1 to 0."—The above is
much in keeping with the "kindly" at-
tentiau paid our buys by the spectators
during the match. It 18 said the girls
were about as bad ea the boys with their
chin music. Few towns appear to know
how to take a defeat in good part. It
was very nasty for the Brossele team to
prevent Listowel from snoring, bite goal
keeper should have stepped out and al.
lowed them to score one goal at least, be -
armee that's the way they always do, of

last week nays :—"After defeating the
Listowel, P. meets and Harriston teams
separately, the Wingham lacrosse team is
now prepared to play a match against a
picked twelve from the three defeated
teams. Such a matoh would certainly
prove interesting, and we hope to see it
arranged." Why would it not be better
to pit Wingham against the oombined la.
crease teams in the towns named they
could easily "do them," particularly in
the matter of "wind."
"Amax WIDoEs," driven by R. Roach,
of Bruseele, won 1st money at Toronto in
the 2.85 class,. taking 2 heats on Monday
and one on Tuesday. 2,240 was the best
time. The Toronto Globe says of this
race :—Little Allen Wilkes eurprieed the
talent by pulling oat two of the three
heats trotted in the 2.85 class, for the
majority of the well-informed ones did
not imagine that he was equal to it in
the company of Prosperity, Diok Mitch-
ell and King Wilkes. ging Wilkes won
tbe first heat in 2.251 but the little roan
horse from Clinton did the triol: in faster
time, covering the ground in 2.24x.

it for the purpose of having a friendly
game with the cricketers of this town.
They were short two menand had to ob.
Min the loan of Rev. Mr. Hodgins and
W. Bethune to piece out their team.
Seaforth was unusually weak, and Seem-
ed to have entirely lost their grip. They
were beaten by an innings and a gond

game. being especially strong in the
bowling department, while the Seaforth
bowlers didn't seem able to and the wick-

week ago, and registered at the Grand
Centra) Hotel. He at once proceeded to
get up a charity concert "to assist him
in purchasing s. medical steel appliance
to enable him to waik." The oonoert
took place in the basement of the Pres-
byterian church on Tuesday evening and
about 40 persons were present. Only
four of the dozen performers who agreed
to take part in the program put in an ap-
pearance. Somehow or other tbe dis-
criminating public thought that McGee/
was a pious fraud and the concert was
given a wide berth, McGaw left 51.25
at the station next morning to settle a 55,
25 printing bill. Te has evidently been
in the charity concert business for some
time, and the general opinion is that he
has long since scooped in money enough
to purchase the steel appliance with sev.
eral drinks thrown in. 111eGaw gave his
