SETH SANDER'S RELIGION.
Seth Sanders kept a grocery store
At Squaebburg, state of Maine,
Wherein the thousand things were sold
That country stores contain :—
Molasses, codfish, cotton cloth,
Grindstones,lung balsam, shoes,
Ink, paper, mopsticke, sewing silk,
Mixed paints in reds and blues,
Hoe handles, bonnets, pocket knives,
Salt Mackerel, hats and caps,
Umbrellas, hair dye, wooden pails,
Wheel grease and ladies' wraps.
An absent-minded chap was be,
And sometimes goods got low,
Or ran completely out of stook
Ere he the foot did know.
Folks would ask for this and that
And Seth would say (or squeak),
"Jest abaeout all aeout ;
Dave some in next weelc."
So oft be bad to use this phrase
It got to be a joke,
And everybody used to laugh
Whene'er the words be spoke.
But "Methody camp meeting' came,
And to 0 people fioaked
In numbers such tbat half the roads
With teams were fairly blocked.
The joke was quite forgot sad all
The towufolk staid away
To sing and shout and cry "Amen I"
And ono warm, sleepy day,
While Seth dozed idly in his store,
A solemn man peeeecd through
The village and stepped atifliy in
And slowly said, "Have you
Religion got 2" Seth, half awake,
Replied, with the same old squeak,
"Jeet abaeout all aeout ;
Have some in next week."
