An explosion of gas took place on Mon.

a chair, striking Thoe. Doyle, jr., on the
head, inflicting a nasty wound. The

other damage was done, and in a few
minutes the exoitement subsided.
Thos. 0. Cooper, of Clinton, is dead.
He was born in Kent county, England,
on July 19110, 1808, and thus had reached
the extreme old age of 91 years and 2
months. He was married in the old land
to Katharine Kempton, who survives
him. They mane to Canada and Huron
in 1887, and after two years' residence
in Goderioh, took up lot 40, on the 9th
mon., where they remodeled for 38 years.
In 1877 they retired from farming, and
moved into Clinton, and have ever amen
been residents.
The Clinton Fall Fair, Tuesday, Sept.
19, was very well attended, though many
were deterred by the threatening state of
the weather in the morning. The after.
noon turned out beautiful. The absence
of speeding events was notioeable, and
there being nothing to keep the speotatore
on the ground after an inspection of the
exhibits had been made, the great major-
ity went up town, where the merchants
enjoyed the benefit of their presence, for
many fat bundles wore oorried from the
