feelings of regret of the death of Alex, L.
Gibson, Registrar of the County of
Huron, which took place Sunday morn-
ing. Deoessed bad not enjoyed good
health for some time, and on Thursday
last underwent an operation which was
euooeeefully performed. Though he
rallied from the immediate effects of the
shook and appeared to, be doing very
well, the strain proved too great for the
weakened state of his oonatitution, and
death resulted from heart failure. Mr.
Gibson was one of the pioneers of the
Northern part of this county and settled
along with his brothers, Tbomae, John,
Robert and afterwarde George, in the
Township of Howiok, About the year
1868, when that dietriot was an almost
unbroken forest. They improved the
water privilege on the river Maitland at
the village of Wroxeter, and erected
,lour, saw, woollen and oatmeal mills.

by acclamation for a number of. years.

I The golden hope of life's young days,
The golden dreams and fancies
That strewed the future's golden ways
With amaraothe and pansies ;
The golden hour when love was breathed
And loving hearts were plighted,
The hour more golden yet, when hove
Two loving hearts united.
The golden years that lay beyond,
Their golden rupturre shedding—
All these their golden gloriee blend
To form this Golden 1Vedding.
From youth to age tlds wedded pair
Have journeyed on together—
Not always geutle was the wind,
Nor always bland the weather—
Yet few and light have been their mares,
And light and few their. oroeses ;
And God has ohown ilia pitying fade
Amid their griefs and losses,
0 I Sore the travel and the toil
To reaoh the roaeate present,
Had not affection cheered the way,
And made the j turoey pleasant.
What if the cheek has logit its bloom,
The eye, ite olden lustre ?
What if the leeks are thinned and
blanched
Which on the temple cluster ?
Still hope is fresh, and hearts aro young,
And love ie unabated,
And men and angels hail, tonight
The married and the mated.
The loveliest thing on earth is Love,
The loveliest and the purest ;
The dearest thing on earth is Love,
The dearest and the surest.
And nor alone is heavenly sweet
The honey of its kieeee—
The very tears of Love are sweet,
Its very pangs are bliseee.
And they who love with love the best,
The fondest and the strongest,
Love with the loveliest love of all,
Are they who love the longest,
Ah 1 Love's dear veterans well deserve
Our greeting -and our praises,
Since, where we looked for Wtutor'a
00awe,
They point to Spring'e sweet daisies ;
Since, when the sea is smooths and fair,
Or black the tide ie flowing,
Through all the voyage of the years
They keep their fond hearts growing.
Since, though the Frame may ehow the ,
trace
Of many blight and fever,
The teaming vineyards of the soul
Are fresh and green as ever.
Since, through the 1oug, sweet married ,
days,
Their faith and fervor proving,
They make a noble thing of fife,
A God.like thing of loving.
0 I Happy, true and honored pair, I
0, ever teal and loyal I
We pay you willing court, to -night,
For love has made you royal 1
A1) gentle thoughts and hopes are yours,
All wishes sweet and tender—
What richer tribute can we bring ;
What worthier homage render ?
God's oberube still your steps attend,
Bis peace your fond hearts etrengthen ;
As o'er the sky above your beads
The evening shadows lengthen.
And when the night Domes on, at last,
And brings ire welcome slumber,
Sweet angels from the wondrous host
Which none may name or number,
Shall lead your still united souls
Through shining arch and portal,
To gardens fair and paeturee green
Where Love shall be immortal.

Resting the Fleet.
A hard mattress rests the sleeper more
than a downy feather bed, because it does
not press so many parts of the body at
once, relieving certain bumps while the
others are being lain upon.
No two pairs of shoes are exactly alike
on the inside, and changing them once
per day eases different portions of the feet
by throwing the weight upon other parts.
This gives a surprising res/fulness to the
feet, as well as to the shoe, which also gets
tired, just as a razor does.
Leathers should always be chosen ac-
cording to the condition of the feet, as they
differ materially in effect and purpose.
On every pair of tt Slater Shoes" there
is a tag, which tells the exact leather used,
giving its .Aecteliarilfes and the wear it is
adapted to.
You can thus buy "Slater Shoes" intel-
ligently and ,now that they're Goodyear
Welted, if you see that they're stamped on
the sole with the name and price—$3.00,
$4.00, or $5,00.
