HEAVY FROST.— Last Sunday night's
frost did considerable damage in this lo•

GARFIELD, eon of W. F. Vanstone,
Brussels, who has been living at Medi-
cine Hat, N. W. T„ has written a story
for the Young Folk's Corner of "The
American Woman" entitled "The Queen
of night" for which he was awarded a
prize. We purpose re.produoing the
story in Tan POST next week.
A FEw lade who sometimes congregate
at the G. T. R. depot recently tried a
new mid impudent game of gravel throw-
ing at passenger coaches while the trains
were standing here, Station Agent Ken,

the G. T. R. authorities may take the

ACCIDENT. — Last Tuesday morning
Dire, Thos. Maunders, of Morris, was in
Brussels and was taking a croak of
butter from the buggy to the store when
a large dog ran against her throwing her
off her feet. Mre. Maunders put out her
left hand to save herself and the fall
broke her arm at or neer the wrist, The
disabled member was speedily attended
to and we hope before many weeks Blip

the unfortunate occurrence.

Base BALL.—One of the attractions at
Blyth on the 12th was a game of base
ball between Brueeele and Wingbam for
which the let prize was 910 and the 2ud
$20. It was a fairly well oontested
matoh although the aoore was a trifle
large and our boys believe if tbe umpire
had understood the rules and lived up to
them they would have won as tbeir op•
ponents were blanked four innings in
suocesoion. The chief objection was On
blocked balls owing to the spectators
crowding in too close. McCarthy pitohed
a good game after hitting a few batters,
He was well supported by Parry, who
took Brawn's plane, the (atter being at
Walkerton. W. Grawar wee oleo absent,
having left that day for Manitoba.

put up a flue Swede granite monument
12 feet high, and weighing about 5 tons,
in the Listowel cemetery at the family
plot of the late W. G. Hay, a well known
former resident of that pleoe. They al-
so disposed of another eimilar one to
Mre, Spence, of Newbridge, which will
be planed in Palmerston cemetery to the
memory of her father and mother, Mr.
and Mra, Ferreed. Last week William,
Robert and Jenne Thomson had a fine
Swede granite monnmeut erected over
the last earthly resting plane of their
parents in Egmondville cemetery. These
are only a few of the oontraots filled by
Messrs, Cochrane & Johnstone, whose
work speaks for itself, wherever it is and
is excelled by noon. The importations
of Swede and Scotoh granites by the
above firm exceeds that of any other
town West of Toronto.
