Mayor Robert Scott, of Seaforth, died ;
on the 16th Mrs, Scott was banded a

Life Co. This is an unusually prompt
settlement and speaks well for this popu-
lar company, whose interests in thia case
were looked after by Jacob Taylor, the
Company's agent, Clinton. W. H. Herr
is the local agent for the Confederation
at Brussels.

owns the Brnseels-Seaforth stage, has
moved to Listowel this week where he

this season. Mr. Thomson is an old

of this week the spirit of Mrs. D. Hayden
took its eternal flight. She had been ill
for some time and during her sickness
suffered a great deal at times. Peritonitis
was the mauve of death, She was in her
6600 year. Mrs. Hayden was a woman
of unusual intelligence and had early
advantages in the way of aoholastio train-
ing at the Young Ladies' Seminary at
O0boarg�, at which institution she proved
her ability to Dope with the beat students.

BASE. BALL. -A meeting was held in the
Council Chamber on Monday evening last

of organizing a base bell team for 1898.
There was a large attendance and all

be charged a membership fee of 50c. for

Tan PosT, the death of Mrs, Rob-
ert Blair, mother of G. F. Blair,
Barrister, Brussels, took plane
early on Tnesday morning of last week
at the home of her daughter, Dare, E. S.
Atkins, Fenwiok. Deceased was botn in
the town of Denny, Perthshire, Scotland,
in the year 1821, her maiden name being
Elizabeth Murdook. Along with her
father and sister (tbe mother being de.
{eased) the eubjeot of this notice came to
Canada in 1860, locating in the Couity'of
Lanark. As an instance of the ohmmeter
of Mr. Murdock 0 is said that be took his•
daughters to the famous field of Bannock•
burn and told them that whatever they
forgot about Scotland to always reasons-
ber Bannoolsbnrn. After her marriage to
Robert Blair they resided in Lanark, then
in Parry Sound and afterward in Gode-
rich, where the latter died in 1891, aged
78 years. Mn, Blair luau a sterling type
of Soottieh manhood and was an elder in
the Established church of Scotland for
years. Mrs. Blair and daughter removed
from Goderioh to Fenwick a short time
ago, Miss Blair dying, after a brief
