IN 11381011IA1I,
We are Balled upon this week to record
the death of one of the pioneer residents
of the township, in the person of Mrs.
Thomas Davidson, ar., who departed this
life on Tuesday, Nov. 30111, at the mature
age of eighty.three years and four
menthe. Mrs. Davidson had been en-
dowed by nature with an excellent eon-
etitution and in the course of her long
life had soaroely ever been unwell till
about three years ago, when she was
prostrated with a severe attack of in-
fluenza, which shattered her hitherto
robust health. Sinne then alta has been
frail and feeble, so that being seized with
a recurrence of the same disease a few
weeks ago, she had not sufficient energy
left to withstand it long. From the be.
ginning of her last illness little hope was
entertained of a recovery and the 'neva.
able hour came early Tuesday morning,
80t1i ult., ae stated rbove.
Deceased, whose maiden name was
Margaret Mather, was born in Scotland,
in the pariah of South Dean, near Dyke.
row, Roxboroughohire, where she spent
her youth and early womanhood. In
1840 she was married to the partner who
still survives her. Shortly after their
marriage elle and her husband removed
to the town of Galashiels, where Mr.
Davidson held a position in a woollen
factory for a number of years. At length,
catching the spirit of the times, Mr.
Davidson began to turn his thoughts to-
ward Amerioa and accordingly the tam
ily emigrated to Canada in '58, in those
days when a trane•Atlantio voyage was
seldom made in leas than six or eight
weeks, After spending a few months in
the County of Oxford the Davidson
family moved up into the Huron Tract
and settled on the farm, then covered
with unbroken forest, on the 126h line,
where deceased resided till the time of
her demise. Here Mrs. Davidson and
her husband, with aharaoterietio Soot.
tisk thrift, industry and hardihood, were
not long in gaining an independence and
making a comfortable home for them.
selves, and, speaking from the material
standpoint, the letter half of her life was
spent in comparative ease. But although
fortune thus favored them, prosperity
only brought into more prominent light
all the humane and benevolent features
of her nature.
Physically, as well as mentally and
socially, few women have been better
types of the Soottish character. In the
palmy days of her womanhood her ample
yet lithe figure, her abundant, soft brown
hair, ber rosy oheek, her kind, erupt.
thistle blue eyes, were euoh as are seen
only in the land of heather belle and
she wood,and although that trim
lithe hs long been bent beneath the
weight of years and the soft, brown looks
have long since given plane to the hoar of
age, that bright, sunny hoe retained not
a little of it0 yo0thf01 beauty to the last.
If there ie anything in the world to
perpetuate the memory of one who was
graced with all those virtues which adore
the feminine nature ; who possessed those
qualities which combine to make the
ideal wife and mother, the ever true and
generous friend, the name of Mrs. David-
son will not soon pass into oblivion. She
was a woman whom to know was to re.
spect and love, whose sweet, friendly, an -
summing disposition endeared ber to all
with whom she Demo in contact.
In those pioneer days, among the set•
tiers in the primeval forest, privations
were often great, iuoonvenienoee many
and opportunities for cote of beneficence
and humanity were not few. Then it
VMS that the humane, generous, oharit•
able diepoeition of Mee. -.Davidson so
often evinced itself. The father of the
present writer bas been a neighbor of the
family for mpwarde of forty years, and we
know whereof we speak when we say that
the subject of this memoir was a person
in whose heart the very milk of human
kindness warmed. Her helping band in
seasons of trouble and misfortune ; her
kind ministrations at bade of 010110 0,
made her a blearing to the oommunity in
which ber lot was cast. Hence, while we
cannot refrain from sorrow and temente-
lion at the removal' of ono so good and ao
beloved, it is Millis hour a immolation to
know that from 80ild1ood she had been a
ooneiotent member of the Presbyterian
church ; that she nought her Creator in
the days of her youth ; Him she had
known long and He bad accompanied her
far ; and having attained the fulness of
days rho goes home to that bright land
Where eternal Summer dwells.
To mourn her lose the leaves behind
her a husband whose care and attach.

R. LEATHERDALE, PROPRIETOR.
After a business experience in Brussels of 20 years I desire to
return my hearty thanks to the Public for their liberal patronage
and d at the me inbetter position than
n h same time to state that I am a
ever to sell good goods at low prices. Having two stores, one in
Brussels and the other in Seaforth, and consequently buying in
large quantities enables me to purchase a great deal finer than I
could in the past.
You must not compare prices of 5 years ago, or even 1. year
ago, with what they are to -day, and I assure the Public that it will
well repay them to call and see goods and get figures, even if you
don't buy. I cannot give a list of prices here as I carry such
an endless variety of goods consisting of FURNITURE of all styles
from the lowest priced to the hest.
The largest stock of Pictures and Picture Framing
goods ever shown in Brussels may be found at my Emporium and
they are sold at half the old price,
g
In Organs I have been selling them at from i15 to
$20 lower than other dealers, but I can now sell them cheaper than
ever. Buy the best --the Goderich or the Bell—both of which I aril
agent for.

I prefer to say but little about this department,'as
I have been with you doing business for many years, and those who
have called on me are hest able to say whether I have given ,satis-
faction or not. I hold a Diploma for Embalming and make a point
to personally and promptly attend to this branch of tho business.
