WHEAT 1 WHEAT !—Monday evening at
the Epworth League B. Gerry, the
President, entertained a large company
with an account of hie repent trip and
visit to Manitoba and the Northwest.
He recounted experiences on the journey ;
dwelt on the progress of the country and
the prosperity of the inhabitants ; oar -
prised a good many by the reports of the
almost illimitable wbeat fields, and
closed with a reference to the sport fol.
lowing wild geese, ducks, &o. Mr. Gerry
found the former Brusselites and persons
from thio locality well and doing well.
W. T. Mooney, son of Co. Connoillor
Mooney, at Indian Head, has about 1,800
bushels of wheat this year ; Albert Ger.
ry,afthe some place, threshed about
1.600 bushels ; and J. H. Young, at
Moosomin, will have from 1,000 to 1,200.
Morton Young is studying law at Moose.
min. Mr. Gerry also says that at the
great Braesey farm they will have 40,000
bushels of wheat this year. To all who
are doing well in Ontario the speaker ad.
vised them to stay here, but if young
men with a few hundred dollars want
land, be thinks the West is the plane fon
them. Miss Thurso. Gerry, who spent a
couple of months in the West, gave a
most interesting sketch of the trip she.
and others made from Indian Head to
Fort Qui'Appelle and return. A vote
of thanks was passed to Mr. Gerry and
daughter for their kindness in eupplying
the information about a much talked of
portion of this great Dominion.
Tam KLONDYRE.—The following item
refers to a party of 9 who went from
Manitoba to the Klondyke last July, one
of the number being Will. Hiogeton, sea•
and son of R. T. 13ingston, Mill street,
Brussels;—Lettere have been received in
Selkirk from members of the Holland.
Selkirk party who went up last Spring
to the Elondyke. The lettere are dated
at Lake Linderman, and announced that
on Sept. 8 the patty would leave Lake
Linderman for the Klondyke, The party
went in by way of the Chileoot pass, and
met with almost unsurmountable obsta•
ales in the pass, The conditions of travel
along the pries are eomebbing terrible.
The route is not only up steep mountain
sides', strewn with boulders, but it often
winds along a steep hillside or the edge
of a preaipiee, where the utmost caution
has to be observed to prevent going over.
The party were twenty-one days in pack.
ing their stuff over the pass. They did
the packing themselves, as the Indiana
were °barging 50 cents per pound for
everything they carried aoroes. There
are thousands of people struggling away
en the pees who will never get over in the
world. To,make matters worse, for a
great part of the time there were terrific
snow storms and rain storms, particular•
ly rain Monne, on the ocean side of the
summit. These made the work all the
more dengeroue and diftieult. Rod.
Smith, of Selkirk, writes that it rained
end Snowed as hard as it could at the
SLIMS time. The party took turns week•
ing at boat building and packing aoroes
the page, and they were all so fagged out
after getting all their stuff across that
ehey had to rest for three days before
starting dawn the river. It is nncleretood'
