between the town and the Company

last week says : "The great heart of the
community goes out in heartfelt sympathy
to John beacklem and family, of Durham
street, this town, in oonnection with the
death of the wife and mother at the early
age of forty years. The funeral on Sun-

CLOsE CALL.— Saturday night that

"Jen McCorecten 10DEAD."—This
was the short eentence passed around
town on Tuesday evening, and was found
to be only too true. Deceased carried on
a shoemaking shop in Brussels and bad
been a resident of this piece for the past
6 or 7 years. While not the moat robust
man in the town, owing to asthma, be
was usually at work and was a quiet, in-
dustrious roan, enjoying the esteem of
many. He was quite poorly last week
and on Sunday was taken to the home ef
David Haiste where, despite the beet of
care, he passed away as above stated.
He was about 61 years of age and was a
widower, his wife having died about 8
V5008 ago. Mr. McCullough was a Pres-
byterian in religion ; a Conservative in
politics, and also beonged to the Orange
Oder. Three sons and one daughter
survive him, but none of them are resi-
dents of Brussels. The funeral took
place on Thursday, interment being
made at Blueviele.

teresting and instructive lecture delivered
by Rev. Juo. Rose, 33. A., in Melville
oburoh on Monday evening. The rever-
end lecturer mounted, in a pleasant
manner, incidents in conneotion with his
trip to this Moody meoca, and after deal-
ing with the place of meeting and its
purpose, referred to its speakers, singers,
prelatical results and the life and ohm,
meter of D. L. Moody. .A. hearty vote of
thanks was arecorded Rev. Mr. Rose for
the leoture. The following was the pro -
