Yet our mother's offepring well are wa,

She schooled us to print our homee and
rights, or nphobling them to die ;
And we're watohiug her etaudiug firm,

Alone in her pride with feerlees pride,
awaiting their banded hate,
And her deride are our glorione heritage,

TUE INEBRIATE.
Bundled up in a bar -room chair,
The sterling pride of manhood gone ;
A human wreak is slumbering there,
A pitiful sight to gaze upon.
Mnd•etained, ragged, unkempt, unwashed,
Nothing more abject could you meet ;
In thie sad condition, unabashed,
A toy for the arcilies of the street.

The fiend who ltaa bound hint band and

Unless to speak a kind word of hope,
And help him to curb that fierce desire,
For without your aid he cannot cope
With the scorobing flame of that in-

That is burning his very vitals up
And driving out self-respect and shame,
For nought can equal the poison cup
To ruin the soul and rack the frame.
QUEEN VICTORIA'S NATIONAL
DIAMOND JUBILEE SONG.
Ain.—"National March," by Eloise A.
Skiminge.
On this, our belov'd Queen's Jubilee day,
Let Canada's sons and danghbers pray
That long may onr Queen her sceptre
sway
O'er sea and land. ;Repeating the sot again and a ain.
Let Scotia from her Highland glen, g
And from Lowland forest, field and fen, 0 rum fiend, heartless reprobate 1
Tune her pibroolt for the gallant moo, How dreadful the ruin that thou bast
At her Queen's command. wrought,
What happy homes made desolate
What souls to the depths of infamy
broeght.
I give him your hand, do not pass him
bHope should not die whilst life remains ;
hrough kindly aid he may yet defy
The demon and his powerfal chains.
For onoo he was young, and pure and
free,
Before the scoffer with devilish smile,
"Doubting if ever a man be would be,"
Lifted the oup to his lips the while.
The generous youth to guilt untrained,
Led astray by nuprimoipled men,
The fiery draught to the dregs he drained
Let Echo's harp with ire heartatringe torn
Rejoice like the"Sunburst" on this happy
morn,
And the brow of Erin's Queen adorn,
With Faith's diadem.
Let Albion's halls with mirth resound,
And "India's coral strand abound"
With love that in loyal hearts is found,
The Christian's gem.
And now in this year of Jubilee,
May God, His graces bestow on thee,
May my Hoav'u born inspiration be
A nation's pneau.
May the stoned of thy life be calm,
And tho mene'ry of tby works a Psalm
When the nation's heart will need a beim,
God save our Queen.

And he called her the "Lady of the

Now we don't rile as fast as our neighbors,
but this snowball bit us bad ;
It jaat atrncic a live eleotrio wive, and
we'r'e rearing, tearing mad ;
For such balk leaves a wrong impression,
on tillage whom it don't ooneeru,
Who don't Dare whether 'tie so or not,
nor trouble themselves to learn.
Though Canadians smile when they pia.
turn our hand as an Arctic chow,
When we're bored to death with icicles,
and our country's enbomed in scow,
We must own we have not the sultry
slime of the laude of palm and spice,
Bub we ain't no sold storage warehouse,
where everything's packed in in.
We don't wear furs the whole year round,
as some would fain suppose,
And this Lady of Snows lives farther
North, where the blooming iceberg
grove.
We don't shoot polar bears round here,
nor hunt the glosey seal,
Nor do we fill up on blubber or oil when
we hanker for a meal ;
We don't do to death with tite bathed
harpoon the swans on the floe ;
We're n different breed from the Lapland.
