PIIGGOTTY JANE'S TRAVELS.
Pegg"tty Jana once went to France,
('Twos just across the wood yard),
She gat there near the close of day
13y'riding the saw -buck hard.
She then did cross the lofty Alps,
(Her father's high rail fence) ;
And all her travels she did take
At very small expense,
But when the obiolcoos went to rooet,
Then Paggotty longed for home ;
She felt quite wearied with her jaunt,
And thought no more to roam.
And -so she took the "limited"
(Her father's old whoel•barrow),
Said she'd go home to eat and rest,
Then finish her trip tomorrow.

She was sitting up straight in atraigh
banked chair ;
There wasn't a snarl in her shining hai
There waen,t a speck on her daint
And hoc rosy fano is full of distress.
When I drew near to this maiden fair
She suddenly rumpled her ebining hair
And dropping down "in a heap" on as
floor,
Uplifted her voice in a wail most eons.
"Now what is the matter, my prett

very frequently attach railway trainmen
is kidney disease, whiuh up to a lute

remsdleo claimed to be cures, the truth
is that nothing had been found to 8110.
oeesfully sops with thin terrible dieease
until the advent of the now wor,d•famed
Dr. Williams' Pints Pills. Chancing to
hoar one clay that Win. Taylor, a resi-
dent of this town had been cured of
kidney trouble through the agency of Dr.
Williams' Pink Pills, a reporter called
epos him at his home to hear from him
personally what he thought of his cure,
Mr, Taylor is an engineer an the
.Dominion Atlantic Railway, his ran
being between ILalifax and ICeutvillo, and
he is 0118 of the most popular drivers on
the road. When asked by the reporter
concerning his illness he said :—"Ib was
in the Spring of 18110 that I had n severe
attach of kidney trouble, brought on by
continuous running on the road, and 1
sappoae it is caused by the oscillation of
the locomotive. It affected me but
slightly at first, but gradually grew
worse. I consulted a doctor and then
tried two or three varieties of so•oalled
aures. Some helped me for a time, but
after stopping the use of them I grew
worse than ever. I had noticed nomer-
ens testimonials in the papers concern-
ing Dr. Williams' 1'inlc Pills, end read-
ing of one ease that was almost indeuti.
oat with my own, I deoided to give them
a trial, and purchased four boxes at a
Gest of 11,2. But it wise $2 well spent for
I was completely cured by use of the
pills, and have not been troubled with
my kidneys since. I can therefore
recommend them to others similarly
afflicted.
The experience of years has proved
that there is absolutely no disease due to
a vitiated condition of tits blood or
shattered nerves that Dr. Williams'
Pille will not promptly caro, and those
who are suffering from each troubles
would avoid small misery and save
money by resorting at nen to this
treatment. Got the gennitle Pink Pills
every time and do not be persuaded to
take an imitation or sumo other remedy
from a dealer, who, for the salve of the
extra profit to i:imself, tufty say is "lust
as good." Dr. Williams' Pink fills
cure when other medicines fail.
LIFE IN COLOMBA.
ltxtracts from a letter written by Dr.
Mary Irwin, of Jaffna, to her parents in
Clinton :—Tho jonrnay to Kandy was
beantifnl, .4.0 first the country was
pretty flat and low. On either side
stretched the fields of "Peddy," a kind of
rice, which are divided into little plots
by mud walls about a 2001 high, and the
paddy prove out of the water. Then we
came through plasma of jungle, bright
with wildflower's—yellow, resembling
small sunflowers, and shrubs' with
flowers like candy tuft. Then the coun-
try became hilly, until at last we are
travelling through the mountains. To
our left, rising high above us, was the
mountain aide, and on the right lay the
valley, with hill after hill beyond, some
aloud -touched, and everywhere was veg0•
tablets, abundant and beantifnl. higher
up on thehills were the tea eettate9
guarded
nllrded from the winds by the enoalyptio
trees. The Ceylon hills are indeed a
sight worth seeing. At handy we visit-
ed the Peradiniza Botanical Gardens, one
of the chief sights of the pity. The
drive through the garden was boantifel—
a continual change of foliage and flower.
Leaving the gardens we drive morose to
one of the tea manufacturing places.
The natives pick the tea—the young
leaves—and carry them to the rookery Biu
large baskets, cohere they are put into a
machine which is like one flat surface
revolving on another; if they want
ordinary tea the surfaces are of smooth
wood ; if the tea is to bo green the sur.
ranee are made of copper, which gives tea
the green color and metalio taste ; the
tea is put through a sieve and gradrd,
after the leaves air they are pub into hot
an; machines which dries them further,
and then sieved again --fine, coarse,
medium and dust, If yon oonld see
bboss lazy, half -naked nabivee handling
the tea, I ant sure you world wonder
how the tea tastes as good as it does. It
is tbo custom for the wife of 010011 Cover•
not of this colony to have a road bearing
her name out in the :notlntlaine, and in
this way the beauties of the 1lille have
been unfolded ; you drive in and out,
around tho.hilleide, now and then Dom•
ing mese native huts. We visited the
Bndhisb Tetnple, but were not allowed to
see inside it 1 they allowed us in the
library ; the priest in the library is
quite an itltelligcrb follow. Froin the
balcony of the Temple we had a mag•
nil:sent view. As we drove along in the
singe »000h neat day we had a beautiful
view of the country ; there wore eaates•
looking trees, and creepers and brambles
and flowers so far as the eye could :see.
