You have probably been advised
by your Physician to take Cod Liver
Oil. This ie the season when the
taking of this .flesh -producing Oil is
most desirable. If the Pure Cod
Liver Oil is too disagreeable in taste
for you just try the Home Health
Emulsion and you will Gud that dis-
agreeable taste hidden. This Emul-
sion oontaine 50% of the Pure Oil so
youhave a much stronger Emulsion
than is usually found. It Is pleasant
to take and oertain in its action.

What the Candidates Said.
Monday evening a public meeting was
held in the Town Hall to heat thespeecha-
fyiug of the various candidates nomin•
atecl for the Council awl School Board in
Brussels for 1897. B. Gerry was voted
to the chair and the apoakere were called
upon in the order of their nomination.
W. H. Kerr, Reove elect, expressed his
thanks for the New Year's gift presented
to hila by the electors in an acclamation
Reeveshilp election for the fourth time.
The piddle affairs of Brussels for 1890
had been carefully and economically ad-
ministered and he hoped the new Conti -
oil would adopt similar modes. A brief
commentary of the receipts and expendi-
ture, as outlined by the Financial state-
ment, waseg
g iven and passing reference
made to the efficiency of the town Band ;
market scales ; street improvements, &o,
Our assessment was about $5;000 below
1895, the shrinkage being in personal
property. The total amount of Sinking
Fund was stated as $4,300. Debora.
tore debt included :-Ronald bonus,
$20,000, Bearing interest at 7% and matur-
ing in 1898 ; front street, $2,200, at 7%,
falling due in 1898 ; now public school,
$7;600, at q% to run 29 years yet ; the
Consolidated debt is Fire Engine, $5,000,
at 6%, and Howe Loan, 85,000, at 6%.
$2,400 of the sinking fund is out on mort-
gages on farm lands. The population of
Brussels is about the same as last year ;
WO still bail all our indnetries and with a
spirit of unity the future should brighten
up. There is room and a necessity for
eovoral small industries that would give
employment to young people and the
speaker thought a vigorous effort should
be made to establish them during 1897.
He would use his best endeavors to aid
Brussels, tho prettiest village in Huron
County.
Geo. Thomson had no fttalt to find with
old Council and as only about 1/6 of the
total tax was controllable by them he
thought they slid well iu handling the
share they were responsible for. Was a
candidate for Councillor and if elected
would use his bestoudeavors bo advance
the welfare of Brussels.
Doc. Warwick was satisfied with the
old Council tend oousegoenlly wonld
thank his mover and seconder stud retire.
Lcatherdale p

time and returned thanks for the honor
done him in the past. Be asked for re.
(ideation as Councilman a for 1897 , .
Would
not make a apeeah as the Reeve lead
covered the ground ftil•ly. 3Ie was the
candidate of no oliquo or party and if re•
turned would do, as he had iu the past,
the bust he could for the town. Had no
regrets foe municipal work done in 1826,
as he believed the Council did well.
George Baehr thanked the doctors for
placing him at the Board a year ago.
Believed the work had been done with
°eonemy and after an experience of 7
years never knew a year in which more
careful management was manifested than
in 1890. Would not make a lengthy
speech as the Reeve had given the correct
statement. Would like to see an aeola-
mation election and if returned would, ae
bo hall always done, work in the interests
of Brussels. Was not running nnclor the
wing of any party and thought if all
worked unitedly Brussels might boom.
Wiahod all the compliments, of the
8OaBon.
J. 3. Gilpin said he was in the field for
Councillor and if elected would do hie
beet to enhance the interests of Brussels.
Had no fault to 11111 with old Council but
be hoped, if there was a contest, to be at
the head of tho poll next Monday,
II, L. Jecicsnu was nob a candidate as
he wits satlalled with the olcl Board and
thought he could do bettor work repair-
ing w0.101100 and Oloolvo than repairing
oidewalko. Heard there was likely to be
an acclamation election for both Council.
and School Board so, with the consent of
his mover and seconder, he would retire.
The names of 11, G. Wilson, W. F.
Stewart, Jas. Fox and R. Graham were
also called, but the gentlemen were not
prom) 1.
For School Board vaaanoies G. F. Blair
was the first speelter. He said if he were
eloo1ed he would do his beat for the edit.
cational interests of 13rassola. No insti-
tution gives bettor value or should have a
bettorplacein the mind of tho ratepayers
than a well managed school. Both our
school and teachers were a credit to the
place and the record ebowe that we hold
en enviable position in the Co. for good
work done. Was williug to drop out if
a compromise could be tarranged to save
an election, if not he asked the cordial
support of the electors.
Wm. Blaehill was a candidate for a
seat at the School Board and if elected
would do what ho considered to be right
for Brussels. Returned thanks to his
nominator mud seconder.
W. P Vanetone, J. G. Skala, A. Coos.
ley and Jas. Turnbull were on the pro.'
gram for speeches but am not appear.
