THE LATE Joun CAMPBELL. -At noon
hour on Tbareday of last week another of
Lietowel'0 aged citizens entered into rest,
when John Campbell paseed peacefully
away, full ot years and beloved by every•
body. A little over a week ago he had
reooived a stroke of paralysis, and al-
though be appeared to be making en•
°enraging progress up to Wednesday, on
that evening he took a turn far the worse,
and rapidly ,sok until tbe end came.
Hie death removes one of the most fami-
liar figures on town, no well as one of the
moat likeable personages that has adorned
the community, in whiob be has been a
prominent citizen for the past thirty five
years. The deceased John Campbell was
born in the county of Antrim, Ireland, on
March 26, 1814, and came with hie parents
to America when a young mac of about
twenty yearn. Hie father settled near
Albany, N Y., where the deceased learned
the tanning trade. On April 15, 1847, be
married Murtha MoOnlly, of Delaware
county, N. Y., and with bio wife came to
Kingetoo, where for some years he was
manager ole large tannery. Subsequent.

forming a partnership with the late T.
Marriott, of Merriokville, where they
sooceeefally carried on a tannery for
some time. It was while in Merriakville
that Mr. Campbell and Georgie Towner
became partnere, and in 1807 the firm
removed to Listowel and eetabliehed whet
beoame, under the ownership ot Messrs.
Towner & Campbell, one of the largest
sole leather taonerieein Oaoada. Having
ecgaired a oomfortable competency, he
sold out hie interest in the business to his
partner, Mr. Towner, about twenty four
years ago, and has since enjoyed a life of
retirement. Mr. Campbell was p000810ed
of a splendid physique, etanding over six
feet in beight and in his younger days

man nailed with a more pressing message,
and father and daughter lett home to Bed
they also were hoaxed.
