Misses Hebkirk were well pleased with the bad - nese done and are counting on it big Fall trade, Mine LITTLE. A very neat, rip -to -date display of mil. Hooey and millinery goods attractively get out was made by Mimi Little who re. cawed many deserved onmplimente for the many pleasing teaturee. A large blank silk velvet Gainsborough was much admired having soft drape of velvet, with large Meek bird to the front of orown, and oetricb plume gracefully along the left side, eon loops of Duchess satin rib. bon completed this stylish bat. A band. some black end gold hat had soft draped rim of blank velvet with fancy sequin orown of blaok and gold flowing oepreys and blaok velvet bows. A band enolrales the crown which raises the bat on the head giving the newest effect of the season. Orange velvet drapes the band. A. Ohio little black and white toque had rim com- posed entirely of fanny breasts, the shape. being oovered with blank and white chenille trimming. Drapes ot. white tucked chiffon having blaok chenille gar- nitures with long loops and ends of vel- vet ribbon give the needed drooping effect. Numerous sales were made and orders booked and the proprietress was well pleased with the opening. MISSES Roost & HAxonoi=T. Very successful were the openings at Misses Roche &Bayoroft'e, bothfinanoial- ly and otherwise, the show rooms being orowded with ladies admiring the latest styles in Autumn headgear. The win- dow decorations received more than a little prelim, with its colorings of green, blaok and white. Very large and soft was an exquisite hat of blue velvet and white ohenille, bending at will with the weight of the sweeping plumes.' This bat is wonderfully picturesque. Two plumes are used and the soft folds of white ribbon which finish the hat are caught with cabo- chons of granite and gold. A picture hat was developed in blaok chenille, appliqued. on net, and graoefully trimmed with blank plumes, which (extend around the soft orown of chenille. A huge rosette of bleak taffeta ribbon, the centre being a jet oabookan, trims the right brim, another being used on the left, where the hat has a decided flare. Rich brown velvet, com- bined with om-bined.with mink, is used for an effective hat, with draped brim and plaoque crown of folds of velvet. The baok' ie finished with a fall of real lace, caught with e mink buokle. In addition to a complete stook of trimmed hate, Misses Roche & Hayaroft carry an extensive line of ready - to wears, ohildren's' bats and bonnets, veiling, and other essentials of a first- class millinery stook. The oaetomere who could not be suited' with the fine display made by these young ladies would certainly be herd to please. The Fair Vlsltors Well Pleased: The annual Fall Millinery Openings were held last week and were attended by hundreds exceeding the number of the previous year. This is possibly doe to good weather, greater prosperity, and the good name Brussels Milliners have de- servedly won for the latest and most fashionable millinery. The millinery novelties are all very handsome' although not particularly expensive. The impres. ,ion left on the mind after visits to all of the stores was of the extreme richness and exquisite conceptions shown in the new modela. Bich pluehee, velvets and obenilles are combined with furs, such as ermine, mink or chinchilla ; while nom• binabions with squirrels promise to be great favorites. The beavers are more to the front than ever, and the camels hair and tonha e • it d materials are exten- sively eivaly used. The trimming is flat, with. the tendency to the fall at the baok. This ie frequently carried outwith wings, which are a leading feature in trimming; some shapes are entirely of wings, with one or two birds as a finish. The broad, ria flat shape predominates, and nearly all ehow a bandeaux. Much of the trim ming is under bhe brim, and many quaint and obarming effeode are obtained in that way. Geed lace, large, flat rosettes and handsome ornaments are a noticeable feature. A great deal of the blue and green is blue and gintended for the early 1 selling, to be followed with black, black and white, the castor ehadeg and brown tones. White is expected to have a big run. The tailored baba and the readyto. wear bate Have grown so in popularity that large stooks are shown and are rapid geltera. Mlesze Hamm%. JAMES SNELL'S - DISPERSION SALE OF Shorthorns, Clydesdales and Leicesters. The announcement of Mr. James Snell of Mullett, Ont., of the dispersion sale. on ObT. 22nd, ofhis entire "Hayne Barton" herd of Shorthorns and flock of Leicester cheep should receive the attention of all interested in the improvement of live stook in these.. lines. The sale is imperative and will be un- reserved owing to the destruction of all the barns and stables by fire, The Shorthorn herd has been established over 80 years the foundation stock having been of excellent material and its quality maintained and improved by the continuous use of high-class bulla of the most approved breeding. Both cattle and sheep from the herd and flock have made a right good record for many, years in the prize Mita at leading Fairs in Ontario while the Leleeetere'shown from the flock at the World's Fair in Chicago were very, successful in their winniuge. The majority of the cattle are descended. from the cow, "Strawberrryy, the first pare bred cow purchased by Humphrey, Snell & Sons from John. Snell & Sons, of Snelgrovs. She was a successful show cow low set and think -fleshed, aired by Imp. Cobden who was of the same type, , a son ofImp. Sonny Lind, who was a flrat-prize winner at Provin- cial Exhibitions. Strawberry herself wee the second remove from the imported cow, Lady Jane, by Sir Walter, a cow of fine quality and character and a very deep milker, a pro - penally that has been well maintained in -her descendants through all the generations, and it is a very noticeable feature in: the herd to- day, the females of breeding age carrying large and evenly balanced udders and all the indications of flret-class milkers some of the cows having records of 50 to d0 lbs. of milk daily. This family has produced probably as many prize -winners at leading Provincial Fairs as any other in Canada, and members of ib have sold at high prices. A cow of this family fedby James Snell, sold at auction in Iowa last year for $700. The sires used in recent years, and indeed for the last twenty tears, have been typical Scotch -bred bulla, of he low -set, thick -fleshed sort, and the entire herd has assumed that type of unusual uni- formity. A bull which had much influence in fixing this type in the herd wan Vice Con- cur. bred bythe Isaacs, a sou of the deep - ribbed, melow-fleshed Neptune (imp,) a Kinellar-bred Nonpareil bull. Vied Consul's dam was a Ruby Hill, by the Cruickshank Brawith Bud ball Golden Crown. He was followed by NewtYear, a Watt -bred bull, by Village Hero, of the grand. old Sittyton Bad family and out of an IIppermillEnglieh Lady cow, by the noted Barmpton Hero, whose blood bred prize winners wherever it flowed. The present stook bell, Star of Morning, now in his 4 -year-old form, afirat-rize winner at London and reserve for the championship is also a Watt -bred bull of the Marr -bred Eng- lish Lad tribe, hie sire, a Toronto first -prize 733C.'E'':N , h tor, I'ERGoeoN.
